I think my first RPG was Fallout 2 which I really enjoyed at the time. This was long before the times of MMORPG's, but without me playing Fallout I probably wouldn't be sitting here talking to you guys. What was your first RPG?
For me, I believe it was Dungeon Keeper 2. I was late to the party when it came to this game, but it honestly was my first RPG ever. Totally worth it because this game rocked. I actually check it out every few years to see how it has aged, and to be honest, it still looks good to me. My parents rarely allowed me to get video games, so I had to settle for used games at local thrift shops, so many of the games I play late, very late. haha! Morgan.
My first rpg was Diablo 2. What a classic game that is. Loved playing every moment of it. I had such high hopes from Diablo 3..alas it was not to be.
My first rpg was Mass Effect! Its still one of my favorite games. Never before had I known that video games could be like playing a movie. It was an incredible experience, and I remember just watching my brother play for hours and hours before I finally picked it up. From there I started playing more and more rpgs, but Mass Effect will always have a place in my heart.
My first one was Final Fantasy X for the ps2, at the time the game was quite impressive gameplay aswell as graphic wise, still remember when I didn't had the small clue about those power spheres you were winning during the game lol, I'm pretty excited with the comeback they're arranging for it to come remastered for the PS3 in HD.
Though I started playing video games on the NES, I played my first RPG game when I got my PS1. The very first RPG game that I played was Guardian's Crusade. It was a game that was coated in cute 3D graphics but had a very addictive gameplay. It had me guarding a hippo-like pet named Baby which could help in battle along with other collectibles like Living Toys. Here's a screenshot of the game taken from the web:
Diablo 2. Wasn't so much the storyline, just loved doing speed runs and cow runs. Haven't tried D3 but have read it's not good. I have Torchlight 2 atm, very much the same, even the scenes/acts.
My favorite RPG is persona 3 I enjoyed, and my other was Legaia 2 that was my rpg right there. I like that he start, and he has to get to know his origin.
My first RPG that I finished was on Play Station 1, a game called Xenogears. It was a real epic game which took me about a month to finish, nice I had school half the day.
I think I started with Arcanum: of Steamworks and Magic Obscura. It's a practically ancient title, but it got me hooked to RPGs ever since. Good times.
If you consider Zelda to be an action RPG then that was my first. In terms of traditional RPGs it would be Suikoden 1 for Playstation. I picked it up because I thought the jacket looked cool at the store known as Elecrtonics Boutique. It was a fantastic game though the fighting was sort of tedious.
The first one I ever played was Pokemon Yellow. The cartridge was faulty and you couldn't really save the game so I'd stick in new batteries and keep the game on for as long as possible! My dad decided that buying a new working cartridge would cost less than all the money I was spending on batteries...
That was actually my first RPG as well. Though my cartridge was glitched to where I could never get Bulbasaur, ever, even after defeating Misty, no matter how many playthroughs I went through. It was still enjoyable, however. Though, as for the batteries, I just had a rechargeable battery pack for my GameBoy Pocket, though I guess that would still be more expensive than just getting a new cartridge. Poor little Pikachu sitting there for hours doing nothing....
Zelda was mine, but I don't feel it was really a RPG. So for me, Final Fantasy 7 was my first RPG and thanks to that game, I fell in love with the RPG genre. Borderlands, Skyrim etc are my favorite new age RPG's, but the titles that set the standard were definitely that games that turned me into a crack addicted fiend towards RPG's
It's very fun to think about that. It's probably Diablo I, I remember playing it on my very first computer, and I had called my best friend to help me out with it, and basically what we did was we spent a few weeks, every day at my place, just taking turns and developing our character. I still remember our first butcher kill, and how we got the butcher's cleaver, which we used for a long time, and it was basically an overpowered advantage weapon, until it broke and we had to find an alternative. When I think about it, it was more of a grind clickfest, but damn me if this didn't contribute to my love for RPG's and MMO's
Christmas 1995. I opened my present and it was Chrono Trigger. I had never played an RPG before. My favorite games were Super Mario Bros 3 and Donkey Kong Country. Chrono Trigger changed my life. I made a connection with the characters, something that I had never felt before. When I finished, I wanted to get more RPGs.
Man, I dunno. I played a lot of NES/SNES/Genesis/Etc emulators as a kid, so maybe one of these was my first? I also had a PS1, but I know that none of the Final Fantasies was my first RPG... Maybe it was Pokémon? I had a GBC too and Pokémon is the first RPG I remember getting addicted to at the very least...
