How do you guys feel about games that have come out in the past year or so that seem to be heavily inspired by Minecraft. I'm thinking of games like Terraria and Starbound that have similar mechanics, but different art styles and different ways of drawing the player in. Has anyone played any of these games, and would you recommend them for someone who enjoys Minecraft?

Terraria is not bad if you ask me. If you like the 2D artstyle then definitely give it a go. It doesn't have as much things as Minecraft but it's still good. As for Starbound, never tried it so can't really say. If you have a PS3, I recommend Little Big Planet 2.

It's the ones that are outright ripping off minecraft that make me irritated and there's alot of them too. I don't mind if they change enough things to make it their own but when it's nearly identical except for guns or some crap that's just dumb.

I have played the first Little Big Planet and I loved it. I'm a big fan of platformers, so it is really a no-brainer that I would enjoy that game. What kind of improvement does the second game make? I was under the impression that it was more of an expansion to the first Little Big Planet, and I didn't really need to play it.

There are plenty of "voxel" games, which I suppose you could call the minecraft genre. Some games are actually pretty decent. Personally I found 7 days to die to be a pretty cool game, not that I play it all that much. Another pretty good game that is probably even more similar to minecraft is starmade. I really recommend checking that game out, it's minecraft in an open universe, with spaceships and stuff.

I didn't know these games were categorized as "voxel" games, thanks for sharing that. Starmade definitely sounds like something I might be interested in. I'm a huge fan of the sci-fi genre, so it seems like it might be right up my alley.

Also check out Cube World. It's heavily inspired by Minecraft, except you can't build things. You can craft and take on quests, level up and gear up. It also has multiplayer support. It's a bit like Starbound but in a 3D environment and very cartoony.

Two other games that are inspired by Minecraft that came out awhile ago would be Brickforce and Ace of Spades. They take on the same look and feel, but again, they are more attack/defend sort of games than building.

Little Big Planet 2 has more features and some of the complains people had fixed. Overall, not much different than the first in terms of gameplay. Yeah, does feel a little more like an expansion but to anyone who hasn't played LBP yet, best to start with LBP 2.

I have over 140 hours in Terarria. I absolutely love it. This game is much more combat based than Mineccraft. I like the courruption thing they have going on...

Minecraft is a masterpiece. Other game developers just want to introduce their own look at it to the world, hence the constant look-alikes that come on the market. It's inevitable and sometimes it's for the better, as they improve a lot of stuff, such as graphics and whatnot.

There are few that I've seen videos of that look pretty cool such as Lords of Uberdark and Mythruna. As someone else mentioned, there are a ton of direct ripoffs too and those annoy me. I like developers that have taken the sandbox world that you can shape and do something unique with it.

I don't mind people ripping off ideas as long as they are made equal or better to the original. If they want to ripoff Minecraft, I hope that it will look graphically better. I feel that one thing that's lacking in Minecraft is the graphics.

Cube World sounds interesting. It sounds like it takes the Minecraft formula, but adds in some RPG elements. I am a huge RPG fan so this might be something I enjoy.

Space Engineers is my favorite "Minecraft Clone." It takes the block architecture of Minecraft and transforms that system into a sort of Legos for space ships and space stations. There are weapons and physics and insane jetpack movement and I really can't recommend it enough.

I'd strongly recommend Ace of Spades, available on steam. It's kind of like a mixture between Minecraft and a first person shooter.

I was watching someone play 7 days to die while it was popular and it was awesome looking! But it seems to have just died out or no one streams it anymore. Ace of Spades is amazingly fun as well. Voxel games have to be really good for me to get interested in them. Terraria for instance, i couldn't stand the side scroller dynamic, it was aggravating.

I'm personally not a fan of games inspired by minecraft. I think that dev's should come up with their own ideas instead of taking ideas from others. I think cubeworld looks cool becuase it adds something to mincraft-esque gameplay , whilst others just copy minecraft itself.

7 Days To Die is an excellent voxel based game cannot beat it as a recent release (even though it's in alpha). Alot of people consider Rust to be a rip off however I do not see this that much.

7 days to Die and Starbound, both great games, course they are not far into the making as Minecraft is. But I think that both of the games have potential to become more, like another member was saying 7 days to die is pretty close to Minecraft, except the fact that the graphics are better and there are guns.

What about terraria? No one is mentioning it. It's like a two-dimensional minecraft game, and it has a lot more to do than minecraft does, which naked sense as it is two dimensional and probably easier to code. It's a really good game though, with amazing things to do, like you can defeat a load of bosses.
