Gathering and Production, what did you pick?

So, recently during the trial of the game this came up. You could pick two of Gathering or two of Production or one of each for skills. I eventually chose skinning and leather working since I'm sure my character is going to need a lot of leather related items as a monk(I don't yet know if that's true but I can dream). At any rate, I was wondering what were the skills all of you picked? Also, why did you pick those particular skills?

The best piece of advice I can give you is to take two professions that go hand in hand with each other, like say -- mining and jewelcrafting or herbalism and alchemy. This will make work much, much easier. Also, my advice for you right now is to focus more on leveling. At the level cap, when you'll get burned off of raids and dungeons, you will have something to do.

I'd have to agree with everything that GlacialDoom just said. Picking two similar professions can only benefit you in the long-term, which is why many players follow such advice.

Professions depend on what you want to do in the long run with your character. When I start new characters on new servers I generally choose gathering since it's a quick way to make gold, level up and stockpile much needed materials. Once you reach max level and decide to raid or pvp, you can drop your gathering professions for production professions since they offer stat advantages depending on your class.
