Has anyone every played the game alone? I thought about it and whenever I played I would always play with a group of people. Is it even possible to go solo?

Oh, yes, it is definitely possible to go solo. I was in a guild for a long time and was really close with a lot of them. The GM went rogue and kicked everyone out. After that guild was disbanded I went solo for a long time.

It is absolutely possible to play the game solo, even if you're in a guild. But the social interactions available are part of what makes WoW so appealing to so many people, so why would you? I tend to do things 50/50. I have time set aside when I play for guild things or playing with my husband and then time I set aside to just be out doing things by myself.

Yeah you can play the game from level one to the max one alone but it will be much harder to get there. A group offers protection and even if you screw-up they can save you and fast level-up. It's also fun to play with your friends and explore the beautiful world.

Like in most MMOs if you play just alone you are missing a part of the game. It's possible but not ideal in my opinion.

I played alone for a few months because I didn't have the time to join a serious guild.
It was ok, I did mostly pub raids and they weren't that good but it was ok. But Guild > alone always.

I played solo for the majority of the time I played WoW, it might sound boring but in some ways its a better experience. At least when I was in a guild you were constantly distracted from guild messages or when you had friends playing messaging you. Playing solo allows you to really focus on the lore and storyline, you get a lot more immersed.

There are a lot of perks that come just from joining a guild, like 10% boost to exp and extra crafting resources.

But for actually playing, you can play as a solo player and use the ingame tools to find groups. Right now you would be limited to dungeons and the easiest forms of raids. But in the next expansions, there will be a look for raid tool that will allow solo players to group up defeat all but the hardest mode of raiding.

While questing, the game can be fun soloing.. but when you get to max level cap, you will be limited in the things you can do and will have to do many things with strangers, who may be jerks or just bad players. It is better to get in a guild and at least have some people who you can do group content with that you know have some skill.

You can always mute your guild chat or move it to another window if it's being too bothersome for you. But as Azrile says, when you get to the end game content you are definitely more likely to want to have guildies or friends to play with. It makes so many things, rep grinds, dungeons, raids, even LFR a much more pleasant experience than doing those things on your own.
