Has anyone else made underground appartments for villagers?

I like to turn my old mines into little underground apartment buildings for villagers, but I never get around to finishing them. My newest thought to add to them is to use glass blocks as roofing so natural sunlight will filter through into the lobby/corridor areas.
    Has anyone else done this?
Do they count as proper villages, by game standards, where villagers and iron gollems will spawn?

I've seen a few of those around the forums, and they do look really cool, but I've never actually made one myself :p I guess I'm just not good enough at building.

This sounds very interesting, though I have never tried it myself. What benefits would this offer to the community? Does it act like a regular village above ground?

I made an underground animal farm. But I've never had the idea about a villager underground shelter. I guess it would keep all the zombies out!

I have made test villages underground, and added the villagers through spawn eggs, and they do flee into the underground apartments at night, but I haven't made one big enough for villagers to spawn yet. I guess thats why I made this thread, to see if anyone else has made working underground villages where villagers have spawned naturally. It's a pretty cool idea, and adding the glass block roofing should simulate an open air feeling in the lobbies/corridors and hopefully help make the doors underground count as houses.

If you look at my topics on my profile you'll see that's pretty much my thing too. I've made a whole slew of villages underground and under water. It's great fun :D.

I've made a ravine village, an underground secret lab (villagers do mate there) and an undreground village kind of thing. Also a fantasy mushroom cavern.

I've never made one myself, but I do really want to make one when I have time.

That's pretty clever, but I haven't tried this out myself. I try to avoid interacting with villagers because I find them more annoying than anything else.
