Have you ever been hacked?

or know someone that has been hacked? I've known so many people who got hacked in WOW ,good thing they can get you pretty much everything back for you. Not all but close. The funniest hacking story I had was a friend, who was hacked THREE TIMES (no authenticator) and the hacker moved his character to another server ,leveled it up, made some gold and maxed out his professions ;o

Nope, I have never been hacked in the game. My GF resubscribed to my old account and have been plying the game since 2011 without any hitch.

I've been hacked twice before when I still hadn't gotten my authenticator. Needless to say, I was in a panic every time since all my hard work was gone. Blizzard was really good about getting all my stuff back though, so it turned out alright each time.

No I have not been hacked, but I've talked to people who's accounts were hacked and stolen. It happens sometimes, but it happens in other games as well. It's quite scary though, the idea of getting hacked. All of the progress now in the hands of some other person, not a really fond thought I must say.

No, my account has never been hacked. I've been playing the game for 3 years and so far I haven't had any problems with hackers. Though, I bet that if they target me they can easily hack me.

Yea I haven't been hacked either. Their authentication system is pretty good compared to to some other games I've played. I remember 'hacking sprees' to be fairly common in other games that didn't seem to happen in WoW. But it does happen and it can happen to anyone, so don't think you're safe. I always keep documentation of my account as proof in case I ever need to file a ticket for a hacked account. Best thing to do is NEVER give out your info to ANYONE, no matter what they say. And keep your password really complex so it's hard for programs to crack it. Good luck and hope your accounts stay safe.

Some time ago when I was grinding through Westfall, I was randomly disconnected and wasn't able to log in for a few minutes. Finally, after trying several times to relog, I was given the message that I was banned. Talked with a GM via the battle.net website and had my account unlocked. Rather than doing the smart thing and immediately getting an authenticator, I got back online. A few minutes later the same thing happened. Talked to a GM, changed password and installed a phone authenticator. Haven't had a problem since.

Neither time did anything negative happen to my character. I can only assume that I had a keylogger of some sort that gave away my password. All they must have been able to do with my account in that short time was to mass shout about some gold selling website.

I did not play the game long enough to have anything to get hacked, but I gave all my stuff to my friend who I think still plays , but if I did ever get hacked I would be upset and just quit.

I never got my WoW account (or anything else for that mater) "hacked".
I always use different passwords for every websites I register to (Which is how most people get "hacked", with using the same password where it's much less secure), and also use a password generator that generate passwords complex enough that it would take a lifetime for a computer to brute force.
Very unlikely that a keylogger ever get installed on my PC either, I have everything well secured.

I got my account hacked once. Blizzard sent me and email saying that my account was reported doing suspicious activities and that the IP indicated it was in China.
I was able to get it back after a minutes, I just had to answer and few questions and confirm my email.

Never happened to me, I can't even imagine it being hacked. With all the time and effort I've put in it, losing it all would really be a blow under the belt. The best advice I have is; "Never share your account information with another player." and to always check e-mails from Blizzard. There are numerous scammers that use emails close to Blizzard.

I have never been hacked but I watched my husband literally get hacked before my eyes. We watched as his main character logged in, striped, and sold everything before running to the mailbox and sending off the gold. Needless to say I was immediately speaking with a GM in game and they stopped it within 20 minutes. It was about 48 hours of paperwork to get it back, along with all of his possessions. Blizzard support is great about returning items to players, but we did get authenticators shortly after the experience. Who doesn't like a free fire puppy pet AND added account security?

I guess I've been lucky, I've never been hacked but almost everyone I know who plays has at least once.

If by "hacked" you mean password stolen, then fortunately no. I use a different password on my more "important" accounts (email, paypal, etc.), and I have an authenticator on my account. Which, I can personally attest, is pretty DAMN effective at keeping people out. I've had plenty of experience on the subject matter.

My husband has been hacked three different times, but thankfully he's always gotten everything back (which is nice since he's a highly geared Paladin). Each time it's frustrating because he's very careful to not download programs, open emails or anything that could possibly lead to him getting hacked. We've talked about getting an authenticator for his account, since he is usually the only getting hacked, but we have no convenient way to do it as we lack smart phones and don't drive so we don't have keys!

I haven't been hacked per se..but something very weird happened to me about a year ago.

My account had been inactive for quite a while (didn't pay my sub fee) and all of the sudden one night a friend calls me to tell me my max level char was farming Outlands dungeons o_O

I logged in, changed the pass, checked the "payment history" on the website. There was a 30day game card on record for that particular date. A game card that I had not inputted.

My character had extra gold on it and no items were missing. I mailed blizzard/submitted a ticket and the next day my ticket was gone. All evidence of the "Break in" was gone as well. The transaction and all history was empty again (only showed my old CC payments) and everything had been wiped clean.

After resubmitting a ticket a few days later, I got a response from a GM saying there is no proof that ever happened. I had 2 friends with me in the room as this was happening + the friend who called me to let me know that the account was online. But Blizz says this never happened.

What are your thoughts on this?

I've been hacked before. However, it was honestly really stupid. My advice: Don't ever download botting programs. I'm not sure if WoW had a botting problem, but RuneScape did (the one I played when I was hacked). Botting is stupid, and my little brother thought it would be smart to try to bot (some guy was advertising it in-game).

Anyway, I started to notice that things on my account were messed up. RuneScape doesn't really have a customer service, and so I basically lost everything over something so stupid (the hacker actually put stuff onto my account, which I then dropped in spite of his efforts). I'm not really bitter anymore. Just don't download 3rd party software for any untrusted source. And make sure you have anti-virus software (if applicable).

    I was hacked once.

It was back in wrath of the lich king, I would play wow at this internet cafe on public computers. And I guess having no authenticator coupled with playing on those computers that get shared with everyone (the graphics on those were amazing!!) got my account hacked somehow.

Anyway they took all my gear and that was it, I changed my password pretty quickly before they could do any more damage. Then I bought the authenticator and haven't had a problem since. Blizz is pretty good at getting your stuff back when you get hacked.

I've been what you would consider "hacked" probably twice. The first time was due to my own stupidity more than anything else, I befriended this guy in-game while doing a group quest who happened to live in my area, and so we leveled together and got pretty close. At the time I was busy with school, so I gave him my account info in hopes he would level up for me while I'm absent. I come back one day, he has changed the account info and locked me out, but worst of all, he somehow figured my email details and pretty much took the account. After a lot of bureaucracy I managed to get it back.

The second time, it was after a few months break, and the guy basically changed my info, didn't touch anything, and was out in Hellfire Peninsula just mining things on my character. I logged in with a bunch of material left to me. I still have no idea what happened.
