Have You Ever Felt the Need to Buy Into Pay2Win MMOs?

As we've all encountered in our MMO experiences, games vary from free2play, pay2play and paying for exclusives. But, some people think staying free is the ultimate test of gaming and if you can conquer a MMO without spending a dollar, you are a true wizard of the economy mechanics. So, have you ever spent money on an MMO for an advantage? Do you regret it? Can you justify it?

I've played a number of free to play and pay to win MMOs. Whilst I've never spent a dollar on any of them, I've also been unable to fully conquer any and all of them, so there's that, too. I could get to a relatively high level, and even somewhere near the level cap, but then the grinding would become too ridiculously tedious. Additionally, to really conquer the games, you would have had to had extraordinarily great luck. The best and most obviously, painfully P2W armour often had to be paid for. Even after that, the stats in the sockets and on the armour had to be randomly rolled, and to roll the stats, you'd have to pay, yet again. If you tried to enhance normal armour to high levels, and didn't use a cash shop stone or similar object, it had a high chance of 'breaking' and becoming unusable, too. So while I did manage to sometimes get to fairly high levels, sadly, I never conquered a f2p and p2w mmo.

I've never spent money on an MMO for advantage. I did spend about 450 dollars on League of Legends skins. Needless to say, I did regret spending that much. I ended up only using most of the skins once or twice.

I remember playing some MMOs that are free to play, pay to win. A real good example is Nexon. For those of you who know Nexon, they're pretty much known as free to play but pay to win. For example, Combat Arms. The weapons are alright for the in game currency ones. But if you pay real life money, you can get really OP weapons.

Yes, I unfortunately have a horrible habit of impulsively buying into games and immediately regret it.

Yes, but I never did. I would quit immediately because it's nonsense. A game is supposed to be fun and either Pay once to play like Guild Wars 2, or not pay at all and play it completely freely, but if it comes to an end where you have to pay monthly or what not, that's when it stops.

I can't say I ever will or won't only because I haven't come across a pay2win game that intrigues me enough to do so. If I'm going to put in on a pay to win style game, it would have to really, REALLY attract me with some sort of unique gameplay mechanic unseen in any other game of the kind.

I did in the PC. I spent more money than I'll ever admit to on the game "Combat Arms". Since then, other than buying the games, the only money I spend is play station plus

I have spent not only 10 dollars, but a total of 500 dollars in a single MMO game, more specifically, Marvel Heroes. I just liked the game that much that I actually felt the need of spending money to not profit off their services for free. My logic was really ... unique. xD
I quit thereafter because I would've spent 20-30 dollars a week on it. I didn't even know that a game could have so many things to buy.

NO. I cannot stand people like that. IRL we already suffer with the whole "money is everything to survive" I do not wan't idiots to bring that lifestyle into the virtual world.

Yeah, I did it with guildwars a bit just to make money in the game. Games like Guildwars 2 and Archage it's a lot harder to make money in the game without doing a lot of work and I just get lazy. I am pretty proud of myself because I have yet to spend any money other than patron for Archage, trying to earn gold the old fashioned way.

Nah, any game that has any sort of Pay 2 Win features will immediately and permanently scare me away from ever bothering to play it - what's the point of playing a game where you just sink money into it so you can keep up with everyone else when you could just go play a real game

No way. If I want to invest money into a game then I'll spend more money and buy an actual good game like WoW. Why should I invest into a small P2W game that I'm probably not even going to enjoy?

Nope. I am usually turned off of P2W MMOs and games. I'll quit before I reach the stage of wanting to purchase some items from the cash shop. That's why nowadays, I do some research on a title before investing any time or money in it. And part of the research is how P2W or much advantage paying players have over nonpaying players.

GunZ the Duel definitely earned my money. But that was well after 2 years of playing without paying for the premium items. Sadly enough to be able to competitively play you had to pay for at least 2 or 3 outfits and special health kits which added up to about 10 dollars or so a month, not too bad in my opinion if you're playing the game 3-4 hours a day.

Neverwinter seems to be a P2W game and I'm slowly but surely thinking about starting to play that so I'm pretty sure some of my money will be donated to the makers.

No. If the game is billed as "free-to-play" then it goddamn better be F2P or I'm not gonna bother with it. Frankly, pay-to-win can go to hell.

Absolutely. F2P games are quite rare, I do know Guild Wars 2 is not P2W but it's more Pay Once to Play, could you recommend totally F2P games?

I've spent money on vanity items in-game, but never for an advantage. I really don't like the concept of those kinds of games so I tend to stay away. There have been times where I've paid money for phone apps, like to buy coins/gems/whatever currency in order to buy items needed for quests (Again talking about phone apps, not MMOs) but for MMOs no I haven't paid to win. My husband has, and it's a slippery slope because you then need to buy more and more and more and now not only are you investing all this time but all this money too.

Yes, all the time, I go into a game saying I won't spend any money on it, then I wind up spending tons of money on it and I do regret it.
