So who among you guys is expecting and wishing to see Hikaru doing a song for the third installment? I'm personally a fan of her music and I'd die if she agrees to do it. Unfortunately there are two things going on against the idea: she's on hiatus since 2010 (even though she resumed it briefly out of respect of the Evangelion series and made a song for them) and secondly I remember reading on an interview that she did with her dad (who's also her manager) that they weren't sure about continuing their work with Disney because 'they don't pay' (which is both hilarious and sad). There's still a long way to go for the game, maybe there's still a chance.
Utada pretty much is synonymous with the KH series. It's one of those things that you come to associate certain artists with certain series, ect. The music for KH was created with Utada in mind because she was the perfect bridge between Japan and US/European markets. That being said, I think she's tired of the industry right now and I can't blame her for it since being on tour all the time puts a strain on relationships and there's hardly any down time. As to Disney- it doesn't surprise me that they'd try to lowball an offer to have her make a single for the series. That being said I hope that they're able to reach a comfortable negotiation for everyone involved. KH wouldn't be the same without Utada, not when the entire music creation process kind of revolved around Utada's theme songs.
I think she's right if Disney isn't going to pay enough for something they know is so synonymous and invaluable to the series, that she shouldn't have to reprise her voice. However, I think Disney and Square Enix realize this enough to offer a better deal for the third game. So, it's very likely she might do a song for just the game during her hiatus.
If she is not on the title track, I would be extremely disappointed. I know that she is not as active musically as she used to be, but it would be great if they could get her one last time for old time's sake.
