How are moderators usually picked for servers?

    I know this is a weird question but there must be a reason people are picked to be moderators on different Minecraft servers. I have been looking for a server that didn't have a bunch of ten year olds running the show, but it seems like an impossible task. Usually ten year old find the most strangest things entertaining that leave me with a O.O face. Once server I was on it was like constant trolling. They would port to me just to mess with me. It was horrible.

    I'm a server owner first of all. I choose my moderators and co admins by a few criteria. You have the best chance of becoming a moderator on ym servers if I know you in real life, or we're friends. Second of all, if I don't know you in real life, you can gain my trust by donating or proving you're older than 14. We don't accept anyone younger than 14 to have any sort of control over the server, and our youngest member of the staff is 15. It also matters if you're mature and you've been on the server for a while. Even if you pass all this criteria, you're subject to variables and my own personal judgement.

    I have never been a moderator of any server. If you are a server owner, you can consider me anytime you want.

    Usually the moderators are picked if the player plays on the server for a long time without breaking the rules, or if it has the knowledge of server commands or plugin commands. But for some servers, it's different. Some servers make the player moderator randomly, and then the server ends being spawn griefed. Once in the server where I have been, some guy was promoted to be a moderator and he promised that he will not do errors. After some days that guy kept spawning 1000 horses in spawn, the other moderators told him to stop, but, he didn't listen, and then the guy got banned permanently, forever.

    Most of the time, a moderator is usually someone the server owner knows in real life, and trusts. I'm not against this kind of thing, because if you know someone in real life, it is very easy to tell if they are responsible or not.

    The rest of moderators are usually people who are really dedicated to the server, and don't break the rules most of the time, and when they do, it is a small rule.

    I am perfectly fine with how server moderators are assigned as of now, unless they only give people who give donations moderator status.

    I don't think I would ever let anyone I know real life to be a Moderator. I wouldn't pick favorites. Just saying that most mods on most servers are just total tools.

    I have to play with a person for awhile before making them a mod on my servers. I prefer people that take moderation seriously, but I don't mind if they enjoy having fun otherwise. As long as they know and follow the rules, then I'm cool with most people becoming moderators if I need some.
