I'm curious at how you guys would do it. Say you have a friend who is addicted to Dota 2, but hasn't tried playing League of Legends. How would you convince him to try it, and what factors of League would you promote that would make it that League is a lot better than Dota 2? I want to know what you guys think, how can you convince a hardcore Dota player to switch to League?

Just badger them about how much better league is over Dota lol. There ego won't be able to resist coming over to league of legends. In all seriousness, there are more maps to play in league, way more playable characters, and way more actual players online.

Where I'm from there are a few LAN cafés so I'll probably just con them into it that way. I'll invite them for a free hour and some refreshments and I'll insist we play league instead of Dota. Also, I'd maybe show some interest for Dota too and play with them once in a while so it would be easier for them to see my point of view as well as being more able to understand what it is they find so enjoyable in that particular game in the first place.

I think for someone who plays DOTA2, League would be almost a step down. I think it's easier to be coordinated with your character and easier to move around and aim your spells when you're playing League. I've found DOTA to be very challenging, and I've played league for years. I guess you could tell them you can press "b" and teleport back to your base any time and buy items at any time, even when you're dead. Those are the only things I can really think of.

I don't think anyone that plays DoTA would join League of Legends. Don't get me wrong, LoL is one of my favorite games but I think DoTA is harder when it comes to strategy and stuff. It'd be a step down.

I agree with FuZyOn, Dota is a much harder game and there is no real reason for players to switch from Dota to LoL. I have tried to switch from LoL to Dota many times but the game is so complicated and I don't feel like sinking thousands of games into it to understand it fully.

Dota 2 player here. With friends, it is definitely much more accessible to play League rather than Dota. Like most users posted, the difficulty of learning Dota makes it harder to get into it. If its your friend, then tell him to play with him. I play League when my friends are playing it. I prefer to play Dota, and honestly, I don't think there is anything in League that will convince me.

Yeah League is more accessible than Dota so it's probably hard to convince someone to move from LoL to Dota. Basically when you consider everything, like characters and maps and all that, there doesn't seem to be a reason to swap from Dota to LoL other than simply "play with our friends and get a fresh experience". And usually that's enough of a reason for me to swap to a new game to be honest.

That's interesting. Makes me want to try out Dota just to see what makes it that much more complex and different. I've gotten to play the first one but the second I have absolutely no idea on.

I think the snowballing effect is lowered in DoTA, you can't just rampage everyone if you get a couple of kills early on. It's also a lot more strategy involved, especially in the early stages of the game.

I'd tell him you can just have fun playing League of Legends because the ranked competitions aren't that tight. There are a lot of maps and game types that you can play with your friends in a friendly environment. LoL ain't that serious but it's still seriously fun.

Just tell him that if he likes to play dota, he'll enjoy LoL because it's a MOBA too. Say that the gameplay is faster and different from dota, that away he'll probably get curious.
