How did you find out about Minecraft? And what made you stay?

Minecraft is obviously an incredibly popular game, known for it's blocky landscapes and exploding green men. But how did you find out about Minecraft?

For me: I saw a youtuber called paulsoaresjr doing a lets play series about it on YouTube, the game was in very early alpha back then. This was some time in 2011 I believe... I fell in love with the blocky style, the crafting, the hollowing out a mountain and claiming it yours aspect of the game.

    So what's your story? ^ _ --

My friend gave me the alpha just last year. I thought at first "What the hell is this game?" and then I played and I have no idea how things work. I spent literally hours punching trees and building houses using dirt and stuff and I have no idea how mining or crafting works but once I realized how to do it, I was just hooked instantly.

To be honest I can't even remember where I first heard about it. I'm pretty sure it was still in alpha versions when I first played it though. I think I read about it in some forum which advertised it as video game lego :D.

A friend told me about it and I decided to give it a try. I really liked the cooperative gameplay and all of the creativity involved.

I'm a nerd and I'm the first to admit it. I found out about Minecraft from some buddies at a comic shop in town where I went to play MtG. They wouldn't shut up about it for the longest time and eventually I had to check to see what the fuss was all about. I liked it, at first, but didn't really get the point of it. I got curious and looked into the multiplayer part. I found a server using some website and eventually got accepted into a vanilla server. I immediately fell in love. The community was great and they were really awesome at teaching me about everything (I didn't even know about torches when I joined that server...lost my first build to creepers who spawned in it while a soon-to-be-friend was visiting). I spent a lot of time visiting builds and starting builds with various faces around the server and eventually I realized I'd spent 2-3 years on it without even noticing. To me, the single player is still nothing and it could never hold me in minecraft, the real fun is in playing with friends.

I have been into the game since the early alpha days. As a child I was an avid fan of Legos so this is basically the best virtual version of Legos that there is, even including Lego's own PC-based construction tools and software. The community for this game is also generally very positive and love to share their creations with one another, as well as teaming up and building massive structures.

The ingenuity of the players in Minecraft is limitless, I love seeing all the clever ways players have used the Redstone objects in order to create complicated logic and function gates. What's even cooler is that players are mostly doing this on vanilla Minecraft without the help of mods such as Bukkit and all the other famous ones.

I discovered Minecraft from my best friend, and he wanted to play it with me. At the time, I mostly played games like Zelda, Elder Scrolls, and Battlefield. I bought Minecraft, and for the first few months I didn't know how to play or what to do. I asked my friend, and he taught me the basics, and he told me the rest was up to me and my creativity. I started playing more and more, and discovered mods, maps, and skins, which were the turning point. I was hooked. Minecraft could be anything I wanted, and I played it for years, enjoying the blissful fun of building and surviving.

Went to a friend's house and he was playing it. It was definitely love at first sight haha. I still remember exactly how it happened, I have a perfect picture of it in my mind.

I found Minecraft this year last January when I saw SeaNanners played it long ago. The reason is that this game is fun to play with friends and there are many servers with different type of game like factions, prison and etc.

I learned from the coverage the game got during its popular time. I guess what got me hooked was how refreshing it felt. I've never played anything like it prior to Minecraft.

My friends set up the game on every computer at school one week when we didn't have any work because the semester was almost over. It was my first glimpse.

My friend told me about this game and let me try it at on his computer. Played it for a few minutes found it boring as I had no idea what to do besides break stuff. Later I managed to learn on how to actually play this game and I liked it so I decided to buy and download it. And now I still play it today.

I found out about Minecraft after I saw my brother playing it. I don't have any clue how he found out, but I asked him what the game was and he told me. After that of course, I ended up buying the game, which was worth ever cent I paid for it.

Through friends mostly and people talking about it non stop. I would be in Bestbuy picking up another game or something and some little kid would be talking about Minecraft and how awesome it was. So I was like "Minecraft must be some kiddy game for weiners" So I didn't bother with it, and then my friends were like you have to play it. Even then though I said "You guys are nerds for playing a baby game." Eventually I gave it a shot and became hooked.
