I'm a newbie compared to most players and I hardly know how to play, but, I do know the basics and what I should do. For those who are a bit more advanced, how did you learn? Did a friend teach you or did you use YouTube as a place to learn?

Play as much as possible, that's how you get good. Watch streamers as often as you can to pick up on good habits and learn what to do in certain situations, but you're only gonna learn properly if you exercise yourself.

Also it helps a lot to play it along with people you know, they can carry you few levels, and after a time you'll start to develop your own set of skills, but I'm believing this way it'll be much easier, if you grow your character easier then you'll learn to play it a lot faster.

Also make sure to check some tutorials and basic definition on the internet, they always help. You can start developing your skill set from there, after you know the basics and the terms.

Player streams on twitch are a great way to learn. Alternatively, you could try the LoL forums or the LoL subreddit.

I learned the ropes from a friend and my college professor. They pretty much showed me how to properly play the game, it's all just a matter of thinking and practice like pretty much everything in this world that requires skill and whatnot. Just play the game always and try not to make the same mistakes twice.

I mainly learned from just playing the game. I was new to the MOBA genre when I started playing back in S1 and I had no idea how the game worked or about any of its mechanics. Just play a lot and you will get better. You may learn something from streamers and youtubers as well, but still, nothing beats playing to get better.

I learned mostly through playing it and watching videos. With the internet, there's so many gameplay videos and guides you can find. Most importantly, you will get better by just playing it.

A LOT of custom games. The first 2 champions I played were Kayle and Karthus. I loved Karthus when I saw him at Intermediate bots and I decided to buy it. I actually got a Quadra Kill with him in custom games (big achievement for a beginner).

I'm still learning it to be honest. What I do aside from playing is look up guides for characters I want to learn to use and go from there. Adding my own twist to the guide's recommended playstyle adds to my enjoyment as well.

You ultimately learn from experience. The more you actually play, the more you find new skills and understand the nuances of different heroes. The guides are good tutorial to get you started, but nothing is better than just playing.

I just played a few times to get quainter with the small details and from there I watched a lot of streams and youtube videos. I'm more entertained by watching better players play so I just needed to understand the game so I could understand what was going on in videos and tournaments but it's also a great way to learn as a beginner.

Yup, I agree, the guides really did help me out when I was starting out. There's just so much to take in at the beginning that I felt overwhelmed, so I felt the need to look up things so I could understand a lot of it.

Haha well, this girl I liked played a ton of League of Legends, so I thought, why not give it a shot, maybe impress her too? That's when I did all my research; reading up gaming guides online on EVERY SINGLE FREAKIN CHARACTER, practicing with bots, then when I was confident enough, practicing with other people through LAN and online too. It took a while, but I did it. And I really had fun too. The girl never really noticed me, but I did found a new hobby in League of Legends.

I got lucky when I started playing a few years back and had a friend who was nearly max level introduce me to the game. He showed me the ropes, played a lot of bot games with me and was very patient luckily. When I wanted to up my game, I started watching YouTube tutorials and paying attention to what other players were doing. You'd be surprised at how much of a difference learning to efficiently farm creep spawns and things that seem like minor details really change your game up. It just takes time and trial and error. Just ignore the toxic players and learn from your mistakes. That's all a new player can really do to start excelling at the game.

The guides are a must. I admit I was tempted to skip over them when I first started just because I am like many other people and don't like reading manuals but I am glad that I did because they are well made enough that I did understand the game almost immediately just by watching and reading them and now I understand that they are there for a reason.
