How do you build your houses?

I have noticed that there is a big difference in the way people build their houses in Minecraft. I tend to find caves or simply dig underground to make mine. I very rarely build a regular house. My friend likes to build minimal little buildings, almost like shacks. What is your favorite way? Do you build huge megastructures or do you keep it simple?

I start out with basic materials like wood so that I can build a foundation of where I want to be. After that I start with more complex materials like cobblestone and expand outward.

I usually have a modest home on top and expand downwards like a massive underground palace. I kinda want to see if I can build a palace in the sky, though that would take a really long time for me to set up and ultimately finish...

haha, I do the same thing. For me, the house is actually just so I can easily locate it, but all the fun stuff happens underground.

It's even more funny when you have a group of friends with you. Sure, you put up with them laughing at the crappy little house you made, but once you take them down the stairs, you can sit back and watch as they walk around a richly decorated area with diamonds lining the wall with awe.

I love building my houses on top of lakes or the sea, usually small castles that are connected by bridges or underwater passageways.

I tend to go for a Japanese style (stairs and a lot of details cascading). I also love building near the sea, the scenery is cool! :D

I usually find some place where I can build my house, like near the sea and the mountain. If I can't find anything that are suitable place to live, I build a temporary shelter like using a dirt as a wall. And if I found a place, I'll just build a small house and I'll just upgrade it later.

I put practicality first when building my houses. I use them as a storage, or for cooking materials and crafting objects. So they're just boring squares but I make sure that everything is quickly reachable inside and easy too see. Where I put said house is very important because it has to be the in-between for everywhere I go, and it has to be safe from monsters of course so high grounds are preferable. I usually build railroads under said house so I can connect every settlement I make and every interesting cave I discover. It takes a long time but I enjoy doing it. :) Or at least used to, I don't play Minecraft as much as I did in the past, I don't have the time and I rather play other games now. :)

I, personally, love Japan! Their architecture is so elegant and intriguing that it just... inspires me.
I like to make BIG, BEAUTIFUL structures that would surprise even me. I generally place hidden doors within them as well, it makes it all the more fun when playing hide and seek ;)

I usually build my houses out of spruce and oak wood. I will occasionally make the kitchen out of some bricks and stone because of it's nice texture. That's about it!

Hahah, i'm with you on that styling. At least when I really attempted to make a house in minecraft, it was a japanese style garden that was at the peak of a mountain that I made waterfalls down that came from within the large house at the top.

When it comes to building houses in Minecraft I first start out simple. Then I start adding stuff on to the base structure. I try to make it as wacky as possible. I will add wool here and diamonds there. By the time I am done other people say it doesn't look like a house, I don't care though, I'm usually proud of what I do.

I make them huge! I tend to wander around until I find a cave that's already there, and start tearing down more and more walls. The more tunnels, channels and rooms I make, the more I like it. I also like to try to break an opening to a lake or some sort of water source and make a lovely waterfall in one of the rooms.

I like making a few different buildings in my livable area. Each building dedicated to it's own little thing, like potion making, mining, smelting and farming. Then I'd have my own house, which would be a normal enough size. Not too big, not too small.

I like to play more along the lines of go big or go home. I like to make pretty big structures. Saying that, I do occasionally make smaller ones. It depends on what I want to make them for, really.
