How good are you at building?

How good are you at building? Are you an avid dirt house or a master fortress builder?

I'm along the lines of both, it may be a castle that I have built but it will still faintly resemble the dirt house I built a week ago. What about you?

I do not have a screenshot to show you but playing single player with my friends has rendered me a pretty good builder. We used to implement new ideas and tried to make it as real as possible. It was a good pass time!

I always have some ideas at what I'm going to make but always fall short and end up stopping halfway. I did make a big castle with reinforced bridges with my friends once but that was A LOT of work and since we were playing on a server that didn't allow TNT explosions we had to manually break up thousands of hillside blocks to make room for the huge castle. It was a ton of fun though.

I am more of the dirt house type of guy, I can never get my head around the whole concept of laying out things perfectly. I can hardly build a small house without destroying it many times over because of the little OCD errors that bug me constantly. It has to be perfectly symmetrical and have the same blocks as those around them, the floor has to be made of wood and walls out of stone, it causes me to take long when I construct a building.

I'd like to think I'm at least a half decent builder, but I know I'm definitely no expert. I started out doing some simple and complex tutorials and eventually was able to make some of my own, fairly complex creations.

I would say I am a above-average builder. I can build some pretty neat stuff with redstone. All I did was follow tutorials on youtube and practiced.

I would agree that I'm along the lines of both, However i say give me another month or two and I'll definitely be improving, the fact that I can start from nothing to something amazing is awesome so I'm really determined.

When I first built a castle, I sat back, stared at it from afar, and said to myself, boy I'm the best builder in the world. But when I took a look at the creations of others, I was awe struck. It looked like my creation was made by baby if put aside by side with other creations haha.

Whenever I begin to build, I have an issue with using too many of the same colors. I always stick to grey, wood, etc. Once, I build a castle entirely out of stonebrick and stone. Another time, I made a village entirely out of wood.

I have the exact same problem. This is why I suck at Minecraft :(

May I ask which tutorials you used to learn how to use redstone?

I hate huge builds with a lot of empty spaces. I make tight mazes with lots of dead ends, backtracking, jumping lava puzzles, nether portals among other things. The problem is I can never get anyone to play them :(

More of a small/dirt house kind of person. I prefer to build it up and then use it until I'm not content with it, largely because my vision of a house changes and the house must be destroyed. D:

I do not have much creativity for building, but I do have an eye for aesthetics and once I start I usually finish. I also like making art - like statues and stuff - on servers. I also very rarely plan - I just build as I go.

    I agree with SpaceGuy. lol
To be completely honest, I sucked at building houses! Unless they were your average, generic castle built in creative mode. Until I took an architecture class, I had no idea what I was doing. But now, at least, my Minecraft homes resemble a home that looks like more than a mound of wood and dirt. (I do end up looking up a few floor plans on Google before starting, sometimes, as well.) o_O
Ah, well! Regardless, it is a fun experience! I love building Minecraft structures and gathering all of the materials. I am proud of my terrible homes. Haha!

I can't deal with the whole "let's make a mud hut and live out our days" concept.
Whenever I build, I build BIG. Someone asked me to make a house for our base, and I made a freaking hotel. I just can't think small, even with minecraft.
So I guess I'm an accidental master builder? heh.

I wish I could do this, but my mind gets trapped in a small room and I have to end up making it perfect so I always lose track of what I was wanting, or intending to build.

I try to be a master builder but its hard, so I often get inspiration from other people online. I created a plan for an elevator but it can be really complicated. Some of the things you can make with redstone are insanely advanced, like you can actually build a working computer *within minecraft*, of course its really simple and very slow but it works.

Anyway eventually I'll have a nice elevator. I'm still thinking of how to make a really elegant design besides the ones I've seen on youtube. But its hard to work with just pistons.

I consider myself pretty good now but I was really terrible when I started. Once you get used to the dimensions it's easier to see what your trying to build in your mind. Start small and work your way up for more success.
