How large is the TERA download approximately?

I remember when I downloaded it. I think it was around 50GB's or so. It's VERY large.

 

One of the things that have led to me putting off trying TERA is the download size. You'll be in for a HUGE download so make sure your hard-drive has enough space. : D

 

It takes awhile like stated before, but how long it will take depends how fast your internet speed is, but it's worth the wait in my opinion.

 

I remember when my friends started downloading TERA.
They took quite a while, some took a couple of hours and others took days. Really depends on your connection, I'd leave it overnight if I were you.

 

Just imagine if it had to be installed off of CDs. SWG came on like 3 CDs and that was eight years ago.

 

Most people's Tera installation folders are between 25-39 gbs. It takes a loooooooong time for most people to download. I can't believe how unoptimized the game is, as it really doesn't have the amount of content to justify this huge size.

 

I installed the game just today and mine is 30.7 GB. It's atrociously big, but what can you do.
The big size is definitely a bit offputting for some people when it comes to downloading, but the game is quite fun or at least looks that way for now. I'm barely level 10, so I'll see if it's good or not once I reach max level

 

Meh. Its 2014. Who doesn't have atleast 1TB of hard drive space?

 

The average right now is still 500 Gbs. Almost all new systems come with 1 Tb now and many people have 1 Tb external drives, but not 1 Tb primary internal drives. After a few year when everyone has phased out their older PCs, this will be up to date.

 

I myself have 1TB, but even that is full. To be honest when I was with 500GB it was enough, but always full now that I'm with 1TB it's enough but always full even if I have 2TB it will probably be the same
Still I do think that the game takes a bit too much of a space. I don't think there is any other game that takes that much space.

 

30+ gb is far too big for ANY game on the market - I don't care what they say. Even WoW was 14gb compared to this. The technology exists to make files much smaller and game companies need to hop on that bandwagon. It's not 2003 anymore.

 

To be honest, it was rare back then for games to even exceed the 3 Gb barrier. Unreal Tournament 2004 (considered a fairly large game back then) clocks in at only 5 Gb for the base install, and was inflated by custom content downloaded from servers.

Nowadays that's considered a small install, but it is definitely still possible to fit a large game in that amount of space. Skyrim for example only uses 6 Gbs despite how large the game is because Bethesda did a tremendous job optimizing the game. The developers of Tera however, did an absolute awful job because it certainly does not have more content than Skyrim.

 

Well, if you see, anyone playing TERA must be at least an above causal gamer. They will definitely own new and up to date rigs. I mean my Steam library alone is 546GB.

 

Well generally everyone who plays TERA should definitely have better than the average PC because the game alone is quite demanding. For example with my PC I can't really use fraps to do proper videos unless I lower everything. Still even than I think that 30GB ++ game is ridiculous. My WoW that have 9 years of content in it is 25.7GB and that's probably because I haven't cleared my WoW folder properly since the last time I installed the beta. After good clear up it should go down to 23-24GB(it's still big, but at least there is 9 years of content in it, so it's understandable )

 

Well, Max Payne 3 is a single player game but even then, it is 30 GB plus. In my opinion, games now can easily be upto 50 GB. I don't care.

 

Max Payne 3 is a game which you play for 1-2 months and delete afterwards it has nothing to do with MMORPGs which stay for years on your PC. What's more the graphics on that game can't be compared in no way with TERA's. Generally graphics dictate the size of the game, but even then there are a lot better looking or close to TERA games which have lesser size.

 

Its not the graphics really. Its the huge amount of pre rendered cutscenes that make the game so huge. I do see your argument that MMOs are supposed to be on your PC for a long time but lets be honest. Who cares about storage space these days.
