How long do you think Minecraft will stay popular?

In my opinion, with recent events, I believe that Minecraft will not be popular anymore by the end of 2015. I think that the beginning of the end is happening to Minecraft, and after it happens, there will only be very few people playing Minecraft, updates might also even stop depending on how bad it is. I have witnessed many servers shutting down, which is where a large portion of the players play on, and Minecraft's slow updates probably wouldn't be able to sustain very many people without the things that servers do.

I don't really know. There still isn't a game that can claim to be exactly like Minecraft. I mean sure there are look alikes, but they don't beat Minecraft. And with new people being born everyday, why would it die out in 2015? People still play Runescape and that game is super old. The servers are shutting down because the servers are being run by 10 year olds and those kids get old when they think trolling is funny.

Well as far as games go, it depends on how much fan base it acquires. Now usually with games it's the fans that keeps it alive so if the demand for MC is still high chances are it's going to stay popular as long as it's being updated and fans are loving it. I say probably 5 or 10 more years.

I can imagine it staying popular for years, and being on some kind of future AVGN or Nostalgia Critic channel, and I can even imagine it setting precedents for future games. Minecraft has been such a massive success that it's hard to ignore it's potential for a massive effect on future generations, and the current generation playing it. People will look back on it when it's obsolete, and reminisce about the good times they had on this great game, and the bad times.

To be honest, I don't think it's going to be popular for a very long time, but right now is not the time to think about it's going to launch of current gen platforms as well. It means that this game is going to sell some more copies.

I think Minecraft will still be popular in the future.
It's the best-selling game of all time! I think Mojang will still update Minecraft by adding new features, bug fixes, graphical improvements, etc.

I would love to see James review Minecraft in the future or at least some sort of reincarnate of the Nerd. Makes me wonder what would happen in the future when we're in our 30's .

This game, in my opinion, is one of a kind. This game will stay popular for as long as people make it. This game is fantastic and will always be, a lot of people love the concept of the game, so this game will never become unpopular.

A few more years at least, if they keep updating it a few years after that.

Hard to say. But I think that it will be popular for quite a while, especially with all the modders in the community. They'll be adding a lot of variation to the game, which will definitely help keep it alive. But the classic version is still really good in my opinion.

I think this game, Minecraft will still be popular in the next few years. Minecraft is a great game and unique too. I think Mojang will do some thing or update it so that it will still popular.

Great point, that's how I feel about it. The truly revolutionary games are the ones that become classics and people will play forever. I don't think it will get mainstream attention, but it will always be a part of someone's bored list and game collection.

It will stay popular for as long as it exist. Yes the fame may die down a lot but people will always play it. It's like an old dog, it's not as good as it used to be but still lovable.

In my opinion, I think it'll stay popular for an extremely long time. I think it's basically the Mario of this generation. Kids will play it for years to come and we'll revisit it for years to come. This all depends on what happens with the Microsoft acquisition, in my opinion though.

Well.. Minecraft is already at it's peak so I don't know. I think maybe a few years.
It will die off eventually, all the things would seem repetitive for people. Maybe it will just be a game for kids in the future because they grow up and discover this game.

I think Minecraft will stay strong for quite a long time. It has an enormous user-base and it helps that the community is extremely active. As far as I know, more and more players are trying out the game, albeit there are also many who quit for good.

Probably for very long. Just look at the fanbase. Its huge! Its too original to get a competitor anytime soon.

Well even huge internationally popular games like WoW for example wane in popularity with time but that is not a bad thing, people get bored, they do something else and then remember fondly the game they used to play and come back to it. Popularity and taste fluctuates but eventually it comes back to people.
