How long do you think WoW will live on?

Do you see wow still being as big of a videogame icon as it is now in the next five years? If so, do you think that it will continue to be such a powerhouse?

I see a lot of people say that the game is dead, but even when it has a low number of subscribers, that still means it has like 4 million. That's still a game making half a billion a year.

Ahhh! that's really tough to say because the world of game is really dense and crowded and many other popular game is still in the market. So it would be really tough to gain its popularity. But it will be interesting to watch the competition.

Can't really see wow dying in the next, three years. But after that, i don't know. There's a lot of people quitting and a lot of other quality MMORPGS out there, which takes players from wow.

Tough to say, it has been declining like crazy over the past couple of years. I still think it's gonna be online for a long time, but not as popular.

I think there are going to be radical changes with the development of the game after Legion launches. The alpha/beta is not getting good reviews.. with the main complaint being that class halls are just more simplistic versions of Garrisons and the ´artifact´ system is mainly just a legendary questline with a very boring talent system put on top.

I think the big thing to watch is sales of the expansion the first week, where normally it is right around 3million, and has been for the last 4 expansions. I think this time you are going to see way below 2million.

I think WoW will go on as long as there are subscribers to it. Blizzard will have no problem churning out expansion packs year after year until they decide that the userbase is too low for them to continue.

Another ten years or so. The graphics engine is really starting to show its age, unless they do a complete rehaul.

I think it just depends on how well the developers are able to maintain it and keep it fresh. As long as they offer new things to do and new things to discover I think the fanbase will continue to be supportive. At this point I see it as kind of like Star Wars wherein the creators can just push a few updates here and there and the fanbase will keep it alive.

To be honest I don't think it will last any longer, with the rise of other role playing games, I think it would be hard to keep gamers' attention to a game that's over a decade old, with the same lore and just added a few bits and pieces after a few years. There should be a desire for new blood in gaming, and frankly playing something for over a decade straight would be insanely tiring at this point. With games like Witcher 3 and even Skyrim, an online RPG game based on those would definitely be welcomed by their hungry fanbase.

Good point. After a while less and less of the hardcore fans will be likely to stick around. Maybe if they kept churning out new content more will be convinced to stay but personally I don't think it's likely they are getting enough new fans to sustain it. Maybe the new movie will help rejuvenate it if it's good.

I doubt it. The graphics are not dated as much as they are just a style choice. It is very unlikely that players are leaving WOW because of the graphics and in fact most players prefer them because they allow for easier system specs and less tech issues. A lot of games have launched since WOW that have pushed the limit. I remember AOC for example, almost completely unplayable the first few months because they bumped the graphics too high and had people with even good gaming rigs excluded from smooth gameplay.
