How many have you quit?

I know a lot of people who have quit the game, or at least tried to, with varying degrees of success. Personally, I began WoW sometime around 2006, and I have been playing it on and off(sometimes with months breaks) every single year until 2012. I've put so much energy, time and focus on this game that at times it was a vital part of my life. And I am not ashamed to admit it, because in a way it has helped me grow too, and I met some of my best friends over it.

    What's your story?

I started a few months after launch and have played it on an off ever since. I am like you, I take a lot of breaks, usually 2-3 months here and there. Most of my breaks line up with either the end of an expansion, or else just real life issues where I know I won´t have time to play. With the exception of the first 2 weeks after an expansion launches, it is always just ´there´.. I never feel bad if I don´t play in a week or anything like that. I do like to stay slightly above the curve as far as gear though, so when new raids are added, I try to get throught hem the first few weeks but I don´t obssess with being BIS or anything like that.

I started in Wrath of the Lich King, and basically my routine has been "play for a few months, quit, then start back up for the new expansion." I also started playing again when they let you get a free level 80 with a scroll of resurrection. I actually played for a while during that time. I plan again to play when the next expansion drops as well.

I generally play each expansion for a while, till I realize raiding or farming has taken over a large part of my time and I have been neglecting some problems. Then I quit till close to next expansion and the cycle repeats over and over again. I promise myself that I won't buy it and fall for it again but I guess I have a certain attachment to this game and the fact that my friends play it and exploring new content is so darn fun does not help one bit when it comes to permanently separating from it!

Same with the scroll of Resurrection, it offered to upgrade your game to the latest expansion too, so it actually got me to try it out "just for fun for a bit", and that fun turned into months of gameplay.

    Well played, Blizzard.

I've been playing WoW on and off since it first came out. Everytime I come back after quiting I expect it to be different or that the things I don't like to be changed. It is always different everytime I come back but not in a good way. They're trying to make it more casual to bring in more players but the casualization is exactly what I hate about the new wow.

I'm a fairly new player, started just a little after the release of MoP. I do the same 'play for awhile, quit for awhile, play for awhile' thing that many have already described. I use WoW as a sort of 'rescue entertainment' I know that whenever I need it, for fifteen bucks I can be pretty solidly entertained for a month. But playing it nonstop just gets too boring for me. It's a good game of course, but I'm not an avid PvPer and I only raid with LFR so the endgame starts to drag a bit for me if I play it too long.

I have been playing for 6 years now, which sounds scary now that I think about it. I have never really quit, nobody does. I have taken a lot of breaks from it, be it from burnout, finding a new game or not having time to play. But I always come back, everyone does. It'll either be that nostalgia or a new expansion that ends up reeling you in. I am currently not playing it because I am having more fun playing free games than I would paying for WoW. I'm sure that'll change soon and I'll come back, probably around the release of WoD.

I've quit probably 6 or 7 times. About 3 times because I was fed up, and 4 times because I didn't have enough time to play.

I finally quit for good after I got a new computer and was too lazy to re-install all the expansions. Feels good having all this new-found free time.

I never really got that far into the game before I quit I tried the game when they were offering the free trails I played for about 30 minutes the graphics where outdated and I found the start of the game way to boring, but if you quit and come back tat means you didn't quit that means you jut took a break.

Those are my thoughts exactly, every single time so far that I've "quit", I've came back, and I am really starting to wonder if this is just how it is, and perhaps everyone does truely come back. For now I am sure I am not, but as you mentioned, WoD might change things/

I played the free trials, but I never really got into it like a lot of my friends did. I actually have a friend that lost a lot because of WOW and that kind of deterred me from playing. Also, I can't make myself pay all that money for a game that I also have to pay to play. I feel like if you aren't sitting there playing it all the time then you're wasting the money you spent. Funny enough, I'm wearing a Hoarde shirt right now. Go figure, right?

I forgot to mention, I was back for MoP's free seven day trial. Got bored in the first area, as it was all the same crap, and went to play the farmville section. That was boring after a minute, so I uninstalled and haven't had the urge to go back since.

I have had two long play sessions with two characters. The first being an alliance character and the second a horde character. Looking back I preferred the horde for some reason, no idea why. The last time I played was about 6 months ago. I think I'm going to play with my horde character again (troll warlock). I hope it hasn't changed too much.

I have been playing this game on & off for about 6 years now. It's not hard for me to stop playing, but it is hard to stay away when there is no real good alternative. I'm still waiting to find that MMO that really pulls me from WoW for good.

I quit several times. I haven't played in almost 4 years. WoW took a major hold on my life in my teenage years, but I can't completely make it look like a bad thing. WoW got me through some hard times and it helped me take my mind away from some rough events in my life. It is a great game and if you can play it in moderation then that's great! :)

I find myself quitting and going back to it. It's because sometimes I miss the moments with my friends there but when I log back into, everyone's offline...

I've been playing since the game first released and have cancelled my account many times. Currently my account is cancelled because I'm not going to pay money to keep running SoO over and over again. I'll resub once we get a few weeks away from the next xpac release.

I feel like the nostalgia is the real reason for why people come back after quitting. I know this has happened to me MANY times and what kept me away from the game was finding a new hobby (writing music). Haven't played since. Even after I stopped writing music almost 6 months ago.
