Definitely has to be in the millions. Minecraft has been around for a few years now, and the fanbase has just gotten bigger over the years.

    According the Minecraft.net
So a number much higher than that to account for piracy and android/ios versions only!

Guys, somewhere around 80 million copies of Minecraft have been sold and many more pirated. Tens of millions of people play Minecraft across all platforms, and the audience continues to grow worldwide. No surprises here.

I guess some people already stopped playing though and the demographics has shifted to a younger generation. When it became available for handheld devices it openend a new opportunity for the less tech-savy. I dont think the community will decline that much thanks to modding and all the updates of Mojang.

I'm going to say something like 50 million people play Minecraft, and right after I post this I'm going to google it to find out just how wrong I am.

It's definitely over a million, I think Notch reported sales figures but I forget when/how much and it's continued to sell since.

At this point it really does have to be up there. If you are counting both the people playing and offline in one number I would easily say it could be millions. I'm honestly not sure though if the number is rising or falling. Minecraft is almost losing popularity at this point.

It has to be millions. I think a lot of the younger generation plays it though rather than like people in their 30s, for example (Then again, who knows, because my brother who is in his mid-30s plays it with his daughters)

Definitely in the 100 millions, I read somewhere it's about that many premium accounts purchased. I find it crazy how many people play.

I'm going to go with a billion. You would get close to that number with just the United States and UK, and surely there's a bunch in the rest of the world.

It has to be over 10 million. It's gotten way to popular for it to be any lower.

16 million copies have been bought ever since the game was in Alpha. This doesn't exclude the fact that people have bought extra copies. There has been coupon exploits (iirc) back then and I think people have abused them. Along with that, people have bought several accounts. I know someone who has bought maybe 10 or 20 accounts just for more power in their faction. The count on the minecraft.net page doesn't say they are unique players.

I highly doubt that Minecraft has a million players right now. It's popular and a decent game, but I think it's current average playerbase has to range around 100k-300k.

I would say a lot of people. A whole lot. Minecraft has been here for ages now and ever since its release it was so popularized in today's culture that almost every gamer in the planet Earth knows of its existence and I think a great portion of them have played it.

It is probably in the millions I would guess. But ANYONE that would ever try to call themselves a Computer gamer would say that they play Minecraft, I mean how can you hate the game, it is close to impossible. I asked someone who said "Yeah Minecraft is boring" how long they had played it and then said a few hours. You have to play a game longer than that my young padawan.

I think anywhere between 10-50 million. It's amazing how popular it was and still becoming. Each day a lot of players find out and get hooked, this game will definitely keep growing in the foreseeing future.
