So, what a support actually need to do? Buy ward?
Also, what is the best support champion you guys have used?:)

It's important to synergize with your ADC. Understand your limits and capabilities and always look to peel for your ADC. Focus on warding and gaining map control for your team. My favorite support is Leona, but the utility supports like Thresh and Nami are definitely popular too.

Just ward, land your CCs, and heal at the right moment.

Being a support really need some practice but you'll get the hang of things once you play this role frequently. To be a good support, you must let the kill go to your ADC, ward on the right spots, heal at the right time and most of all your timing must be amazing.

To expand on the killing part, remember if there's any risk of someone getting away, don't be afraid to "steal" the kill! It's better you get it than no one.

I don't really play support that much, but I do play the marksman role. What I like to look for in a support is for them to ward and have presence in the lane. You should play aggressive when you get the chance, and take advantage of the enemy when they're behind. But sometimes it's better to play safe, especially against strong early game opponents like Draven.

To be a good support you must ward in the best places, peel for the ADC and land your crowd control abilities.

Just be yourself, you don't have to follow any specific rule beside helping your ADC whenever he needs, supporting him with wards and be a sponge for all the damage he might have. That's pretty much it, nothing more, nothing less.
    Good luck!

How you play support often depends on what champions you use.

An aggressive support (such as Leona) tries to pick up kills for their carry by locking down the enemy support or carry. Try to coordinate with your carry to figure out when to jump in and attack!

A passive support (such as Soraka) tries to save their carry by healing/shielding them. The big thing is to make sure that they don't die.

Many supports are a combination of both. For example, Janna can shield her carry, preventing them from damage, or use her knockup to secure a kill. You have to choose how to use your utility to your advantage, and make sure that you won't be putting anyone in big danger by doing so.

There are many type of support: healing, tank, providing cc, etc.

    Healing:
When the adc is low, heal him up, but in the early game, too much healing will make you be out of mana easily. Therefore, maybe buy more mana portions or avoid the attack as much as you can.
    (e.g. Sona's healing)

    Tank:
Be the one who engages, but be careful in early game because you haven't had your build up, so don't engage if you know there is no point to.
    (e.g. Blitz's Grab)

    Providing cc:
When your cc lands sucessfully on the enemy, it provide a chance for the adc to do damage for a long time, so this type of support require more skill on focusing the enemy.
    (e.g. Morgana's stun)

However, no matter what type of support you are, protect the adc is always your main job.

Very good and detailed advice you gave there, thank you in the name of everyone else.

But don't forget that not all of the supporting champions have actually got all of the above skills, most have only the healing ability. CC supports usually lack everything else.

To add onto this there is the scondary AP support. Someone like Annie or Karma that is a heavy lane bully that provides some form of utility in lane and mid to late game is capable of outputing as much DPS as the mid lane. Sometimes playing Karma support, I have been able to win lane alone for my ADC through my poke and superior ward coverage, enough that by time mid game came I was stronger than our mid.

I'd say that being a support is somewhat more difficult than most people realize, and it's not as simple as warding and more warding. :3

A support should be a support! You must be ready to die in fights but of course don't die because your team needs you. You have to be fast handed, you must always be present in clashes. Lastly, Don't try to take the kill for yourself, give kills to your damage dealers because they have to grow and have a better build.

Exactly what Burt said. A lot of early supports (people learning how to play them) are way too passive. They just stand in the back and ward and heal when necessary. The most effective supports should know how to run the lane. They should constantly look threatening, tossing a ranged attack at the enemy champions here and there (if you're ranged), and they should not give up space in the lane. It's also your job to watch out for ganks, and to protect your ADC.
Once you get out of lane, the whole game changes. You still want to protect your ADC, but now you are likely the off-tank, or the general utility machine for the whole team. You should focus on keeping as many wards out as possible, but also get team buff items like the locket or the aegis if your team needs them. If you have a stun, then it might be your job to help catch enemy players when they are out on their own.
I like Annie, Zyra, Thresh, and Leona personally. Annie is my favorite though, since you can go AP and become a real danger to the enemy team.

You just need to learn how to be at the right place at the right time. You need to know when to go in and out in big battles. Proper distancing where in you are at a safe distance at the same time at a distance where you can properly support.

There are different types of supports, your best bet would be to learn what the three primary roles are for you as a support.
Warding is very important too, you need a sightstone first thing and then switch into a red trinket to help you deward any objectives or brushes that are commonly warded.
Warding dragon is now really important too for you. Since you need at least one dragon now to ensure your team doesn't fall behind entirely.

Wards win games. Always have wards with you, and have vision of either the enemy jungler's paths, or the bushes of your botlane, the river, and tribush. Your ADC is your partner, you have to adapt to him, if he plays defensively then you also play like that, if he is agressive, then you are also agressive. In teamfights, be ready to sacrifice yourself if that is needed to win the fight. Always try to defend your carries with your spells and items.

My advices are actually pretty standard:
    • don't still minions to the ADC
    • take on mobafire a typical build for support about the champion you want to use
    • take of course a champion that is supposed to be good in this role
I'd suggest you to try Blitzcracnk at first. He's really good for newbies.

People here have given you some good advice. I'll only add something that's really vital for a support: "Don't expect to be carried by your ADC. Instead, carry your ADC to victory!".
