Hype is Going to Kill Fallout 4

We know that Fallout 4 is coming eventually. Bethesda even said so. However, the company's continued silence on the matter is allowing the rumor mill to churn out hundreds of ideas and rumors related to the game. This is drumming up more hype, but so much hype is bound to hurt the game when it comes out because nobody's going to be satisfied.

Even if Fallout 4 is an incredible, one-of-a-kind game.

I do somewhat agree with what you are saying. There will be a lot of hype surrounding the game, many titles have been like that. Take The Last Of Us for example, that game had tons of hype and I personally think it lived up to all of it.

Hype will only kill a game if you buy into the hype. Don't buy into it and keep your expectations realistic and you wont have to worry about being disappointed. I think a lot of Fallout and Elder Scroll fans know what they can expect from the next game. Bethesda isn't going to change up the mechanics of a series which is already immensely popular. Simply expect a new environment, new characters, expanded lore, new weapons, and maybe mini games. Thats all I expect. I'm not expecting there so be anything crazy innovative about the game.

Hype won't do anything other than boosting the sales. If you think hype hurts a game, than you should see what it'll do to HL3. I don't know why, but I'm certain that Fallout 4 will live up to its expectations.

I don't know if I agree with you on this one. I'm sure there is going to be a LOT of hype closer to release but you have to remember that, as someone else mentioned, the game can still live up to that hype. Think of other games like GTA V.

It might be pretty difficult to live up to the hype, just considering how phenomenal the Fallout series has been so far.

I think that Fallout 4 is kind of overhyped right now. I do agree that its former versions were good enough, but I wouldn't really advise anyone to raise his expectations this high.
To be honest, I didn't trust The Last of Us, either, but upon seeing it, I immediately fell in love with it, haha.

I disagree. Fallout 3 had way much more hype around it, thanks to being a ressurection of a beloved franchise, and look where it is now; there are people that don't like it, but generaklly it has been accepted as a pretty damn solid game. And I really don't know of any people that would try and be way too hyped for Fallout 4. Most people are like me - just waiting for the eventual release, and expecting more of the same with some improvements.

Hype is not bad, as long as it doesn't cause too much pressure on the devs. The last two games were great and I doubt Bethesda could go wrong. There's not much to change, just a new story and some new features here and there. That's it, no major gameplay changes are needed. I just hope they take their time and don't aim for an early release, that's what kills a product. Releasing unfinished games is a total waste.

I actually haven't heard much about fallout 4 that was anything besides speculation, I wouldn't really call that hype - no the hype will come when (and if) they indeed unveil FO4 at E3. And when it comes, I'll get pumped but not because of the buzz created by all the gaming sources, but because I've always been in love with fallout and no amount of hype is going to trump that haha

Still no announcement. Still more hype than before. If the game doesn't come close to living up to whatever expectations come about, then that's going to reflect in overall sentiment of the game. That effect could lead fewer people to buy the game and more people being discontent with the entire release. It's as simple as that. Movies succumb to this issue all the time.

I've now heard that Bethesda plans on showing some gameplay behind closed doors at E3, so only select people will see it. I hope this is true because I've been waiting for this game for what feels like forever!
