Out of curiosity, I was wondering what type of health system gamers prefer?

Obviously it depends on the type of game of course but generally I'm in favour of the absence of a HUD and a 'one hit = instant death' system with fairly placed checkpoints or a quicksave mechanic. A couple of examples are the first two Oddworld games (Abe's Oddysee & Exoddus) or Limbo.

REALLY depends on the type of game, the one hit = death works great in a platformer like Limbo, but would be horrible in a shooter like Metro. I chose the middle option, that your character can regenerate health, but that it depends on how health he lost.

I like the system in Arma where you can bandage yourself and use Epi-pens and Morphine injectors, and how you're for example not able to walk when you've been shot in the leg and the right spot with the right bullet. The screen becomes a little faded when it's critically low, you usually lose blood after being hit, but not always. The whole screen, begins shaking and/or the aiming is very inaccurate and moves around, as if you can't hold your arms calmly. Must be one of the best, if not the actual best, of all healing systems I've seen.

^ Haven't played Arma but a similar system made Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth unplayable for me.

I like the system you get in allot of the Stalker Mods, not one hit one death, but pretty damned close, giving you a little bit of hope if you get hit by a stray rifle round to still live.

The only reason why I hated the ArmA system is because of how eh it feeled, you got hit, your aims now fucked, really lacking in immersiveness...

I'd say something close to "one hit insta death", because this is where you bassically stop screwing around and take stuff seriously, you won't start jumping around or doing stupid things, wich you are forced to do because you find the game way too easy and boring.

Today's games are way too easy, not fun anymore, I prefer old games, those were interesting and hard to finish as you had to focus a little, and think twice before you act, all you have to do in today's games is just to use your hands, no brain is requirred.

As others have already said, it really depends on the type of game. However, I really liked the health system used in the "Classic" game mode of Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad. Still, although it works wonders there, I don't think it would be good in a Metro game. Perhaps something more lenient, but also more difficult than the current system on the Ranger Mode Hardcore of Metro 2033.

Actually, what i highlighted is a mechanic of the DayZ mod only, but the rest is original ArmA content. I agree with you that it is a very immersive and realistic healing system.

It nonetheless depends on the type of game. Simulators like ArmA must have such a mechanic like the said above, but RPG and alike are good with the healing items/ healing items+partial regeneration.

yeah, depends on which type of game, but health regeneration only can be a pain in the rear. currenetly playing AC III, where you have no healing items (back to the fist AC game system) and I rather have the other AC games system, where you could buy medicine to help you heal.

Depends on game. Mario system is great for platformores. While health items are a MUST for turn based rpgs. Rangerhardcore is awesome for fps.
