I bought Minecraft in May of 2011, during Beta 1.3. I even remember the day my friend showed it to me. I watched the Minecraft community explode into one of the largest gaming communities out there. However, starting in 2014, I felt a feeling inside of me that I hadn't ever felt while playing Minecraft. Boredom. When I first started playing Minecraft I saw a vast universe with infinite possibilities. Monsters, dungeons, golden apples, the Nether, and redstone all were unfamiliar with me. I was scared of Herobrine and never knew how to build very well. But as I played, I began to master everything. I made my first texture pack, installed my first mod, and recorded my first Minecraft video. Now, I know almost everything there is to know about Minecraft. After that I ended up running out of things to do.

This happens to every game. That's why sequels are invented. Minecraft has lasted 6 years with updates every few months, or lots of months lately. Other games have a 1, 2, or 3 year development cycle, where a new game comes out every year. I know Minecraft doesn't work like that, as there is no 'campaign' or story. However, the updates brought forth by Mojang are far and few between. They can't match my desire to do more. As of now, there is only one aspect that still brings forth the old feeling of Minecraft- mods. I haven't installed mods in a long time, but maybe I will soon. But that isn't the point. This is my proposal.

There needs to be a Minecraft 2. I'm not asking for 2.0, a giant update. I want two completely different games. Have the regular updates for Minecraft, but start a new Minecraft 2 (Or whatever it will be called: Craftmine, etc.). Now, your probably thinking 'What would a Minecraft 2 have that couldn't be updated to normal Minecraft?' Well, for starters I want a game engine like Unreal or Unity. I want the whole fundamentals of Minecraft redone in a more complex 3D engine. Realistic water and shaders would be the major change. Everything that isn't a block would look fluid and realistic. [Since people keep commenting on this, I DO NOT want realistic textures. I was only talking about realistic lighting, water/lava, sun/moon, stars, fire, particles, lightning, clouds, rain, explosions, and maybe other non-blocks/items].
The entity system would be completely redone- limbs would move organically. The rendering system would be overhauled to work better.

    Realism? In Minecraft? AHAHAHAHAHHAHHAHHAHHAHA...

But seriously. I think Minecraft is fine how it is. It doesn't need a sequel. Updates are fine, and they're free. They're not asking you to pay for the updates, and they're not asking you to play the game. If you're bored of the game, then you're bored of the game. When I'm bored of something, I do the most obvious thing for me. Do something else.

Well, they're adding some additions to limb movement in 1.9 via texture packs. Boom, that's covered. For shaders and realistic looking items? Shaders and Resource Packs. Done. Everything you propose for Minecraft 2 can already be done via mods and resource packs. And if you're bored of the game, then move on. A second Minecraft with fancy graphics won't really do much. It will have the same effect.

    *cough* mods *cough*

But in all seriousness I really don't think it needs a sequel and to be honest if you look at all the updates it's Preeetty amazing if you wait long enough and if you do get bored you can just go play something else or learn some stuff... I mean the internet is VERY BIG there is practically all information available you could ask almost anything, try it!

The entire idea of a minecraft 2 couldn't succeed on new mechanics, realism and overall graphics. Yes, just about every single

game, book, movie, pen, razor, phone etc etc etc. Has had some type of sequencial product, but minecraft does not. Which

is very odd, considering that most communities are always raging for the latest, greatest thing which usually ends up

being some knockoff of the previous version, often times with similar graphics and mechanics as the previous product

and very little innovative or unique features added.

For example, take mario's game sales into consideration.

The games that were more like the original sold far better than the mario games that strayed and offered new features

and generally were viewed as poor additions. Here's looking at you Super Mario Sunshine. Even the Legend of Zelda

fell victim when trying to introduce innovative new features with the exception of Ocarina of Time. Take a look at windwaker.

Completely redone graphics and a few new mechanics and items but yet still sold so poorly compared to other entries i the

Zelda series. Why do you think gaming companies continue to put out more of the same? Every attempt at major

innovation has been rejected by the gaming community as a whole.

When it comes straight down to it, there isn't much sense in plopping Steve down in a new world because Steve

gets plopped down into a new world hundreds of thousands times a day already. Why change something if it works?

I will admit, Vanilla Survival Singleplayer hasn't been interesting in a very long time.

However, I don't think we are going to get a sequel any time soon. Really, all of those features you've suggested could be added at any time considering how often Mojang completely screws over the base engine. All a sequel to Minecraft needs is to be made with a programming language that isn't total rubbish, and maybe have a modding API

There needs to be some sort of update or just an entirely different game to revive the whole gameplay of Minecraft. Mods only do so much until they get so old.

A Minecraft 2 based on a new engine would actually not be a bad idea. It would be cool if the game looked realistic and you would be able to use the same mechanics as in the original. Curious to see what Microsoft are going to do.

Really? Minecraft 2?! That would be pretty cool! But I doubt they'll even consider it because they've been spending so much time on this next 1.9 update. It's also been a year...

Minecraft 2 is a stupid idea, that's for sure. The game is highly moddable and then can be patched or updated to include new features. Microsoft could add dozens of new features, and then, once again, you'd have no idea what's going on until you learned those features.

There's no reason to make a new Minecraft game when you can just continually add content to the current game where its still very popular. The game is also moddable and creating a new game will make it a lot harder for modders to set up their platforms.

I really don't think it's necessary to get new minecraft. It's already perfect and if you want some thing new just get some mods and play it. If you want some realistic Minecraft there are a bunch of games that are very similar to it but with better graphics.

Check out a game on steam called Rust, it sounds a bit like what you're looking for. The problem is that a lot of the things that made minecraft so great might not work nearly as well in other engines. One example of this is modding. Sure, other games can have items modded in, but the idea that everything in minecraft had to be 1 block exactly made the whole thing much more universal.

If you want a realistic version of minecraft, get a realistic texture pack and install the Realism mod pack. It includes a few mods which adds lot of real life elements.

Don't worry, it will happen soon enough. I was skeptical during the Notch Mojang days, but now that Microsoft owns it, I am 100% sure that we will see a sequel to Minecraft within the next two years. I just hope they'll add more meaningful updates to the original afterwards and won't completely abandon it.

Nah, Minecraft is a game that develops and gets better with each major patch, there would be no point to making a number two, that just wouldn't make any logical sense. I don't know, Lava is pretty realistic in my game as when you step in it, you die. Lol.

Minecraft is one of those games that will never be finished, I don't think they'll release an update but I do think that they will make a big deal of the 2.0 update which may be equal to that of a sequel. We'll have to wait and see what happens.

Why? If it would be released, all there would be to it is just a new update. Minecraft is good as it currently is and I see no reason to make a sequel.

Minecraft 2 does need to happen, over the last couple years playing the game I have been installing modpack after modpack because the game has been so stale. Now that I have so much experience with mods I get tired of that too. There needs to be a breathe of life into the game to revive my interest, and maybe a second game could do that!

I'd actually rather minecraft remain sequel-less. I think there's no real reason to have a sequel as it doesn't really have a story or plot that needs continuation. Minecraft is a sandbox game and as such it should just constantly update with new items and features as to enhance the experience.
