If They Add an MMO-Feature, Can They Still Call It "Solitaire"?

There are many 'solitaire-style' games on Facebook. Most of them have the MMO-feature of 'sending/receiving cards-or-credits-etc. to/from other connections.' But you usually go on to play the game alone (hence "solitaire").

But Solitaire Knockout possibly goes a bit 'too far,' as it features "play AGAINST others." True, you're still playing 'Klondike,' and you're the only one manipulating your cards; but you are playing at the same time as up-to-three other players who are using decks 'identical to yours' (i.e. with their cards in the same order).

But I wonder; if they called it Klondike Knockout, would you still know what they are talking about? And what about Spider Solitaire or the other ways of playing the classic card-game? Why don't they 'Knockout' those?

I wouldn't consider it an MMO- just a game that has multiplayer features with PvP components and being able to send stuff to each other. MMO implies massive multiplayer, how is a game like Solitaire Knockout a massive multiplayer when it seems more like 1 v 1 or 4 v 4 at most. A MMO has to be able to host a large number of players.

I guess I'm being kind of 'literal'; as--even though you don't personally interact with more than 3 at a time--people all over the world are playing it at the same time ... in that way--tho--it's possible solitaire has ALWAYS been an MMO :p

I mean, that's obviously not an MMO, so why even ask? It's just a game with basic multiplayer features that's otherwise identical to the singelplayer, traditional version.

What is solitary confinement if you do it with a bunch of other criminals in the same room?

Maybe it's a little of the word-nerd in me, saying, "Why don't they call it 'Oligaire' (Solitaire by Oligarchy)?"

people have been arguing about the definition of MMORPG since before there was one. Some people say that any type of instancing means it is not an MMORPG. Is farmville? you can walk around other people“s farms.

The fact is most games that are multiplayer in any sense of the word call themselves MMORPGs just because there is no real definition and it will help sales.
