Is crafting worth the effort?

    until now I never thought about leveling my crafting skills because it never felt useful to me. Leveling is so fast and keeping my crafting levels simliar to my char levels is nearly impossible. Why I'm posting: I wonder if it's necessary to level anything crafting related. Dont I get better items in dungeons? Measured in effort/time isn't it better to just farm some money and buy it in the ah? I think, I just dont get the real benefits of leveling any crafting skill and would appreciate helpful answers, that may or may not motivate me to level those Many thanks in advance

    Crafting never gets you 'best is slot', though it can get close in a few cases.

    I craft feverishly, for my own needs and because I actually enjoy it, never as a means of earning gold, but I think it's been a long time since crafting was a viable way of making cash except for niche markets; but I really couldn't say.

    That said, I see no NEED to craft durables, but consumables are nice to provide for your own needs.

    When you get to end-game you'll be farming gear from instances/Warfronts depending on your preferences I would expect.

    Gathering is always useful, because in spite of what I just said it seems there's a good demand for raw materials and some lines sell for what to me is 'silly money

    Well I joined in SL content with 100p no more...
    From 50 till 57 I made more than 1k plat from crafting and selling...
    I am outfitter...
    I have friends, who are 60 and still cant get 1k plat to get the 150% mount and I alread had it from 57 lvl...
    I bet gatherers who farm materials and sell them, they get even more...
    Especially on low lvl materials, where most 60's are getting really bored to run low lvl areas to farm those materials and they go to get them straight from AH.

    There most certainly are BIS items that are crafted. Its the only way to get a seal. Oh and my rogue has a funny looking bow. Twisted somethingorother , mean little rugrat. Crafting and gathering are awesome ways to support yourself as well as equip your guild. I'd go into details but I dont need too. You already got 2 damned nice answers.
