Is the community hostile to new\bad players ?

I'm going to be honest here, I have a few friends pressuring me to get the game but I've heard only bad things about the community. Is it true ? If it is, I won't bother I guess. Dealing with morons constantly isn't worth my time.

League of Legends is very competitive in general and it's not rare to find players leveling new accounts (these are called smurfs) who may flame beginners who are still trying to learn the game out of frustration. I'd recommend trying to play with friends in a party together to reduce the chances of encountering one of these toxic players. Additionally there is a simple mute button in game for any players causing you stress which will hide all of their messages! :)

I played League of Legends competitively and to be honest, hostility isn't as bad as you would think. In general people get mad because LoL is a really competitive game, but whenever I play ranked I just mute everyone in the game and focus on winning. :p In general people are just trolling, just ignore them and you'll be fine.

Yeah I think I might get it to play with my friends. It's F2P right?

100% F2P with the option of purchasing champions with real money (although they can be earned free by playing) or unique skins that further customize a champion you own. For example you can buy a skin that makes Brand (a fire champion) become a voodoo witch doctor who shoots out ghosts and spirits instead when he uses skills. It's pretty cool :p

Hey man, although the community IS very toxic and hostile at times, I think that if you play with your friends who can get you into the dynamics of the game, it should be pretty okay. And yes, the mute button works wonders. My favorite course of action when things start going south is the command /mute all which solves most problems with league toxicity.
Also have in mind the problem has been worked on lately, as they are cracking down on flamers/trolls due to the report option.

Don't be discouraged because it is a great and fun game, not worth to miss out on because of these people.

No it isn't don't worry about it. You'll have plenty of time to practice with bots, play with other noobs and when you're confident enough with your ability then you can play with the big boys. It's all about levelling up and transitioning from new gamer to better gamer.

The community is definitely not hostile as far as I know. It is a highly competitive environment where everyone are more or less try-hards. It'll be better you start out by playing with your friends rather than playing alone.

It is just a league of mean people. When you die once, they start asking you not to feed. LOL. Some people like spamming the ping and that is really annoying. However, I have met some good player before, and they would cheer their teammates up. They tried to solve the problems rather than creating argument. Therefore, I guess it is really depending on the atmosphere of the game.

I think the community is generally okay, it is in ranked games where you see tempers flare up. That said, illogical people who tend to go off at the slightest mistake you make tend to be energy vampires which make you tilt. If you do meet these players, do yourself a favour and mute them.

The game isn't hostile to know players but it is against bad players. New players usually play with other new players so there isn't a problem. There is only a problem if the new players immediately start playing ranked if they are level 30, if they are bad at least. I don't need to go over the reason why people are hostile to BAD players, right? I catch myself doing it too sometimes. I just really want to win you know.

Very discouraging community for someone who is either not used to such online communities or who's just starting their online gaming experiences. I feel as though people have a weird fetish with addressing slurs to innocent people... don't know why.

I think that the community is slightly hostile to new players because a large population of the people who play this game like to hate on others for skill, or other reasons. League of Legends has the biggest community so it is understandable that people are rude to others. Also since it is over the internet people like to make fun of others even though they may be the one who is really bad but won't admit it.

A lot of it is just trolling. Even if you are winning, people will troll whomever happens to be the weakest player. They do it every game no matter what.

Yeah, unfortunately that describes the whole experience for a new player, and that player will eventually become the bad one as well. :(

If your friends are chill then it should be OK. League is a very popular game so there are going to be pricks here and there but honestly, they are in every game. If someone is flaming you, just mute them!

I honestly think that the League of Legends community is rather hostile towards newcomers. I recommend to play and improve your skills against bots, because you'll get scolded for whatever you do wrong. Sadly, there's an abundance of summoners who refuse to play with someone unintentionally feeding, or summoners who keep flaming endlessly.

At the very beginning you may have people who are also new to the game which means they won't be aggressive or hostile as they're learning too. However, pretty quickly you'll get people who just shout abuse at you over everything. It's not very difficult to pick up the basics of the game so just give yourself a few days of being thought by your friends and you won't have to worry about it all that much :)

Even at the very beginning there are people leveling up their smurfs and they make the gameplay unenjoyable for a lot of newbies, but Riot can't really do anything about it.
