Is the storyline too overwhelming?

I am a big Elder Scrolls fan, and one of the things that attracts me the most of the games is the huge lore behind it. For me, the plot plays a major role in my enjoyment of the games (in this specific saga, of course, not all games I play I do for the plot)

The thing is, I have tried playing ESO a few times and every time I find the vast expansion of storylines to be a bit "intimidating". I understand that's how MMOs work as opposed to single player games, they usually have larger maps with loads of content and new content is constantly being released but I can't help but find it a bit difficult to get fully engaged in ESO because of how overwhelming it can get, and especially the fact that the game is promoted as having a very specific "main quest" but once you start playing it is quite hard to follow it.

I don't know, maybe that's just me, but I'd like to know what other people think about it.
