Is the subscription worth it?

I've been thinking about getting TES online for a while but any MMORPG that involves subscriptions tends to put me off. I much prefer once-off payments like that for Guild Wars 2, so I can feel that I actually "own" the game.
I'm wondering, is it worth the subscription? What would you say would be a good time to be subscribed for (eg. did you get bored after x amount of weeks?)

It's not worth it at all. Unless you are a staunch fan of The Elder Scrolls series, I wouldn't recommend you playing this game. You are going to find out that it's absolutely boring.

i cannot justify paying a monthly fee to play a game. you end up paying way more for a game that really isn't that great to begin with.

Since I never played it myself I have no say in the matter. But if you need to gauge of it's worth it, just look at the Bethesda general forums or forums around the net. The general consensus is that the game isn't worth it.

But that's not to say an updated version won't fix all that. Remember when FF14 came out? It had the same backlash this game seems to have. Then the revamped the game, and now all of a sudden it's as if the woes of the past never existed.

I couldn't have said it better. Even if you play $15 a month, you are paying more than $150 a year for a game that is mediocre at its best.

That's very disappointing; I'm a really big fan of TES series too. I was really hoping to learn more about the lore and interact with fellow fans, but unfortunately, I've yet to hear a positive review about it. If it's really not worth it, I'll stick with my current games.

Hmm, maybe I'll just keep an eye on it, then. I'm actually hoping they'll do so badly that they're forced to change to F2P after a few years; it's happened before! Otherwise, as you say, hopefully future updates could justify the price.

@queenbee- Well, if you were literally hoping for it to go f2p, it just might happen.

Think about this for a moment, aside from the fairly bad reception it received, there were also PS4 and XB1 version of the game planned. Have you noticed how silent things seem to be about those now?

That could be very telling as to if they game goes f2p or not

I dont think subscriptions are ever worth it. It makes me feel like im borrowing or renting the game and the second I cant or forget to pay I lose it all to an admin who has a repoman complex. Just imagine getting the most powerful/rarest item, wepon etc... spending hundreds of hours playing a game leveling a character and doing quests. One day you signin to play your game and its all gone because you subscription is due and you haven't paid. All that work and progress gone. Not a good feeling at all. Even free to play games or pay to wins as some should be called have better ways of handling this type of situation.

Wavwimer- I don't know what subscription MMO you've ever played that does that. But any of the ones I've been playing leaves your accounts and stats just as they are in case you ever decide to come back to it.

Many MMO games are worth paying a subscription fee for, but, unfortunately, this game isn't one of them.

I'm honestly waiting for the game to adopt the F2P model because even when I beta tested the game, it wasn't that interesting to justify the subscription pay. It's only a matter of time because SWTOR was the same way. There wasn't anything that SWTOR offered that could justify the constant sub, which was why they went F2P.

I'm pretty sad seeing the comments in this thread. I wanted to try the game but after reading this thread, I'm kind of disappointed. I hope it'll be F2P soon, then I might give it a chance.

Yeah, I had a lot of hope for the game because it seemed like it would one up GW2 and had such a large history behind the universe it was created on...Unfortunately it didn't live up to its hype and expectations.

The problem with TESO is that they took the worst parts of MMORPGs and added it to their game while leaving out some of the best part of Skyrim.

Wouldn't say it's worth it anymore, the game has gone into a weird direction.

The game is just days away from being announced as a free to play. Proof is the fact that the subscriptions have been removed from storefronts and the multiple news oulets that are reporting on this. A quick google search will show this.

This is not a game that I will be willing to pay monthly for, but I will gladly buy the software from the store. MMO's are too saturated to have monthly subscriptions anymore imo.

I don´t think there has ever been a subscription based game like that. If there has been, it must be a very minor game I have never heard of. UO, EQ, WOW and basically every other game just freezes your characters until you resubscribe. UO has kept people´s characters from like 10 years ago, despite changing management twice.
