Is there a such thing as a Racing MMORPG?

    I grew up loving Racing games like Gran Turismo and Need For Speed, and me and buddies used to say it would be cool if there were a MMO focused around Racing, where you could drive around free roam and hook up your car and hold street races and things like that. That'd be awesome.

    Ah yes, there are a few of those around, I've tried some myself, and the basic premise seems to be that you simply enter races and drive around in multiplayer, but the free, open world aspect is more or less lacking. I guess you could just say it's a multiplayer racing game with minor RPG elements, but they are there.

    I would recommend that you try Heat Online.

    As far as I'm aware Need For Speed Most Wanted Online is a mmorpg-ish game.
    It's a shame we don't have a full racing mmorpg with open world, but I think that it would put a lot of strain on servers and developers, having to balance vehicles that are driving so fast and not have it be a wreckfest.

    In the past I have played Test Drive Unlimited, which was nice. You have a big island where you drive about in your car with other players. You can race other players to a destination on the map, you can buy houses, cars, etc. I really enjoyed my time playing that game, you might want to check it out. I don't know if its active anymore though. You can probably pick it up for about 10 dollars. I have played it on the xbox 360, it's also available for the playstation 3 and PC.

    The only one I can think of is Need for Speed Online, though everything in that game is instanced except for the main world. Even starting a cop chase will detach you from the main world where you can see other players until they stop chasing you, so you can't do it with other players. Kind of a drag since that is the most fun feature of the game. The world is also pretty small.

    Forza Horizon is the closest thing to MMO-Racing that I can think of. It is very difficult to make a Racing MMO because of how much it would be a wreckfest and how easily trolls could minge gameplay.

    If you mean for PC the only one I know of is NFS World and I would not recommend it to anyone it is F2P, but it is really bad I am a big fan of street racing games and I found it to be one of the worst MMO's ever made one of the biggest problems it was developed by EA if it was made by any other company it would have been way better.

    NFS World as so many have stated, it's a free to play MMO. I've played it for a while but never got into it. I thought it was boring and I had connection issues. If you're really looking to play racing MMO then you can try it out since it's free. Personally, I've never found a single racing MMO that is fun to play.

    NFS world is indeed boring like hell, what seemed a great idea at first though, how sad. What we need is a GTA MMORPG, something like what can be seen in this video:

    NFS Online and Heat Online might be what you are looking for. Not great RPGs, but they have some specific elements of an RPG. I doubt there's something closer to a racing MMORPG than those 2, or there may be but I just didn't hear about them.
