Since we are a multi-ethnical and international site, some of the forum members (that would be you, Bamul) came up with the idea of having a discussion thread for languages. So if you have any random facts about your mother tongue - hell, any language you can speak - you can post that here [IMG]

I speak Danish fluently (obviously) and English almost fluently too, plus enough German to understand a conversation and order stuff at a restaurant. In written languages I write fluently in Danish, English and simple German (might be grammar errors or odd words in between), I understand Swedish and Norwegian, a little Polish and have a very basic understanding of the Latin-based languages, though I most likely will not be able to make sense of the backside of a cereal packet in Spain.
Lemme practice some German with rolf here:
Ah, wie schön das du ein bisschen Deutsch sprichst. Wollen sie Deutsch mitt mir üben oder findest du es langveilig und unnötig?

Did the persians speak Urdu? Sorry if this is ignorant, but I've heard something that makes me think that.
I would like to know that:" Lekh Rabalae, eh?" and "Shapir/Shapeer" means :)

The persians spoke what some call the "language before urdu" basically urdu was based off of it. But non of the words you mentioned are urdu but I can think of some similar ones.

In the context it was used in, I think " Lekh Rabalae, eh?" might mean something like "Good deal, don't you think?" and "Shapeer" might mean "welcome". Would that make sense?

Darkbringer, you do speak fluently English, but 50% of the time you have a Danish accent and 50% of the time, you mysteriously enough have an Indian accent  Datasquid agreed with me on that, if you remember him ;)

Norwegian and English are my two languages, and although Norwegian should be my primary language, it no longer is any more primary than English to me. I've spent so much of my social life on the internet that I verbally am better in English than Norwegian. When I write or speak Norwegian, I often end up asking myself "What's this English word in Norwegian again?)" much more often than I wonder what a Norwegian word is in English. I know perfectly how to pronounce the absolute most English words, but when actually trying to speak English, it feels as if my tongue is filling my mouth and is just in the way. I also have a problem speaking English as there is a lot of "uuuuh, eeeeeh...", as I attempt to remember what words I want to use.

I also understand Danish and Swedish when reading them. Danish is easier to understand than Swedish. But when hearing Danes talk, I really have a hard time understanding what they say because it sounds like they've got a potato in their throat :D I don't know about Swedes though, I've rarely ever heard them speak.

That Indian accent is an inside joke with me and Bynke, don't worry ;)
And yeah I feel the exact same way - I know so many English words, but when you're in a Pinch (i.e. when talking), I just can't seem to bring up the right word quickly enough, making me stutter a bit :eek:hwell:
