I'm not sure if this is already in the game or not but I saw at E3 that we are going to be able to build our own house and furnish it, why not let us build an entire town and attract settlers and merchants! We could set up a perimeter fence with sentry guns to defend against raiders. What do you think?

I'm pretty sure from what I saw that they are going to let us do that. I don't now about attracting settlers but they do allow you to run caravans between your settlements and are allowing you to build much more than a house.

I think Todd Howard did say that your settlements will get populated.

It's a really interesting addition to the game. The fact that it's also optional shows that Bethesda does care about its customers and are not trying to shove everything down our throats. You simply play as you really want.

They announced that at the E3 convention that the settlements will become populated over time and they do allow you to develop your own settlement which is going to be a great feature for the upcoming game.

I'm not sure how I feel about this one. It's a novel feature for those that want it, but I'll stick to wandering out in the wastelands myself. I know more than a few people that will like this addition to the game, if it's done right.

Wow, your idea sounds super fantastic. I think this would be a fun part of the game. I am super excited to try it out. I know I will probably go and buy it.

That sounds like a pretty neat idea. It would be even better if you could find scavengers down on their luck in a random encounter and have them follow you back to your settlement. I felt bad for the water beggars back in Fallout 3 and wished I could do more for them than just give them bottles of pure water.

On the other hand, I'm the type that cannot stay in one place and would rather wander around the wasteland than look after a settlement. With my luck, my settlement would attract a bunch of raiders and I'll return to smoking ruins whenever I find the time to actually come back to check on the place.

That feature is in the game, and not only that, but we will be able to build several towns and outposts. There will probably be quests were we will be able to recruit guards and soldiers and special characters to govern each town. Can`t wait. :D

If you aren't aware of this already there is a mod for Fallout 3 called Wasteland Defense that lets you do all this early in Fallout 3! You can build an entire town out of prefab buildings, hire guards (both stationary and patrolling), build a perimeter fence with sentry guns, and open a store and find inhabitants for your town! You can also hire scavengers to go out in search of items and building materials and bring them back to your settlement. There are periodic raids that come from various groups and you have to fight them off yourself or with you armed guards. You can download all this from FilePlanet.

    Seriously?

Welp, looks like I need to dust off the desktop tonight. I still think my town would be screwed if I'm in charge, even with guards around. Let's see how long they'll last!

You need something called Fallout Mod Manager to run it with, also you need the DLC New Vegas for this mod to work. Let me know if you have trouble getting it installed, it's kind of convoluted but it's a blast!

I think Bethesda was well aware of that mod and decided to officially implement it into their new game. Nothing wrong with that though. Even developers are allowed to inspire themselves from things.

This is great! When I found about this, I'm really excited to play this game. I really like building town in games.

You're right, it was a bit convoluted but I was able to get everything up and running! The beginnings of it is fun but I seriously had to fight the urge to go running off into the wasteland so I could see my town come together. Still tempted though...:D

I was pretty excited when I saw them reveal that feature! It also seems awesome for people who just like chilling and doing stuff in the game, that isn't the main story line.

Well if it won't be included in the main game, I am sure there will be mods that do just that. There are some for Skyrim, so there is absolutely no reason someone wouldn't make one for FO4!

I hope the NPCs that come into your settlement will have cool backgrounds and perhaps provide additional lore/quests. It would suck to have a whole town full of mindless drones that repeat the same conversations over and over again.

There will definitely be mods that can do this, although I think they will add town customization to the game sooner or later. It would be stupid if they only give us access to our house.
