From what I've played of the franchise in the past, it seems to me that most of the Tom Clancy games are set in separate universes (or according to their niche in the franchise, anyway - the Splinter Cell games are all in one setting, for example, because, y'know, Sam Fisher). Have there been any signs yet that Division is set alongside the other games? Or is it another independent universe? And whether it is, isn't, or is unconfirmed, are there any elements from the previous games that you'd like to see pop up, or at least referenced, in Division? Discuss.
Good question. But I don't think so, like not one of the other series that already exists is related with another. So I don't know why would they start now to do that. Also if The Division is completely indipendent from other games' universes they would have more writing freedom, that would be better I think.
That's fair, I suppose, though at the same time it'd be interesting to see the events of Division - which sound pretty heavy-handed, with, y'know, a lethal virus and all - spilling over into other Clancy works in some form or another. I suppose I'm viewing this game through the Marvel Movie lens, where everything is connected in one way or another - modern storytelling tends to go for large, expansive lore bases, and maybe something like the Division, or the Clancyverse in general (can I use that word? I'm gonna use that word), doesn't work so well in that sense.
I'm not quite sure but by theoretically making the story in another universe would give the writers more freedom for their writing, unless they want to link the past games as well. We shall see.
As far as I know, there's no narrative arc. Tom Clancy games haven't really had consistent story lines in a while. Honestly, I think Clancy is rolling in his grave, but usually these studios do a good job penning a decent script.
I don't know if there's anything to say either way? It seems like they're leaving it open ended in case they do end up wanting to put it in an already established universe.
I'd imagine that if it was tied to the other universes, we'd have heard about it by now because that's information that could sway someone into getting a game and potentially pre-ordering it. I have very minimal knowledge of the "Clancyverse" (as was previously coined, hehe) so to me that's not a deal breaker, but I know it's neat to see easter eggs or references to other works pop-up in games.
It's probably going to be its own thing. While it would be cool to have them be linked in some way, they're likely not going that route for it.
They should add a homeless man that looks like Sean Connery as Captain Marko Ramius from The Hunt for Red October, I think that would be pretty cool. lol
I really hope it's a completely new road for the franchise, the older games have all been mehs and I really want this one to turn out better than its predecessors
