Do you think with any of the MMO games out on the market today, a single/co-op version of the game can be made? Of course, certain elements would have to change to suit the single player/co-op environment.

What are your thoughts and which MMO games do you think would be great to have a single player/co-op game?

As I mentioned in other posts that I was so disappointed in World of Warcraft, I still think that if they would turn the whole story and great lore that they created into a single player or co-op game, that would be very epic. People were already expecting a full blown single player RPG as a sequel to Warcraft 3.

I would like to see a singleplayer Warcraft game. No, not the Warcraft strategy series, but something that is actually action. I think it could be done perfectly.

You two have some really good ideas about Warcraft turned into an RPG or action. With such a massive world to explore, there could be so much to do. Have drop-in co-op and the entire experience could be changed. Ah, just thinking about it is making me wish it would happen.

When it comes to many of these games, I play a lot of the content by myself anyhow. To change something like WoW to a solo game would require a single player version of the dungeons and the elimination of the battleground areas. I think some the battlegrounds would be cool if they could come up with sophisticated AIs that could adapt to a strategy, but I don't thing we are able to do that quite yet. Most of the landscape material is already solo material. A modification that would be nice would be the ability to save the game and there would be no need for everything to frequently respawn so once a cave is cleared, it remains cleared for a lot longer.

I think the process of turning WoW into a single player game is not that complicated and could be implemented even with current gen technology, and I would not be amazed at all, if Blizzard would indeed go down that road if WoW would fail in a couple of years and they were forced to shut the game down.

What Blizzard could do is make most of the world into a single player environment, but make battlegrounds and arenas into a multiplayer aspect. It will be similar to the MMO version of the arenas and battleground, BUT the difference is that it will work like multiplayer in the Battlefield or Planetside games. Meaning that these are optional games played on an online environment.

Similar to Borderlands 1 and 2, when another player joins you (up to five players through LAN or online), the overall difficulty increases a bit. So although you can go into dungeons solo, you get greater rewards and loot going in with a friend or more.

I hope a staff member of Blizzard will happen on our posts here. ^_^

Most MMOs rely on player interaction. They have dynamic logic based on player moves. That stuff wont really work well with AI. Some PvE component could work but I wont be too excited about it.

I feel like this would just resemble questing. WoW is almost entirely built around Raids, PVP and player interaction. I think there are some MMO's that could work as single player, but WoW just isn't one

That is an awesome idea and a way for Blizz to eliminate the question about what to do with the PVP and Multiplayer only aspect of WoW. They could turn raids into epic boss fights seen in many other single player RPGs and leave Battlegrounds and Arena combat for the multiplayer part. Just like Mass Effect 3 did.

You can still appreciate a good bit of the lore while you are not running solo. I do a great deal of PVE, got out of PVP a few years ago and now I do my solo's and I run raids. Coming up 1st or 2nd in heals and my DPS is pretty far (since I tend to stay on the healer more).

I totally agree with the comments about WoW being turned into a single player game. I think it wouldn't be that difficult to make it into a really great single player. With just a few changes, it could be so much better than the MMO it is now.

I was never a fan of WoW, but I'm going to say that it is safe to assume that I just didn't enjoy it as an MMO. I would like to see them do something with the game that involved a single-player route. I might very well give it a try again and see how I like it then.

There are some "massively" multiplayer games which are just single-player with other people running around. Secret World is like this, 95% of it is solo and is about the story, but can be done with other players, too. And there is PVP and dungeons, which are the real multiplayer part of it.

Agreed. I played WoW and while I liked it, it wasn't my favorite MMO. I did like the story to it, and I think it would be a much better single player game if they made some adjustments to it.

I personally prefer to play with other real players. That's why there is this MMO part. Even in Neverwinter Nights, I preferred to play on servers in multiplay instead of the campaign which is quite boring by myself to be honest.

On a MMORPG server, you can always choose to play solo. Nobody stops you lol.

On a side note, there are private servers (probably illegal) of Lineage 2. Where a single player can go in and play it anyway he/she wants with unlimited power over equipments and player powers. Maybe there are also private servers of WOW too.

If players leave WOW in mass, Blizzard could always merge servers to repopulate the deserted servers with combined populations of multiple servers. It will be a very long time before millions players are all gone which will force them to shut down the last (1) server. I don't see it in foreseen future... unless they decided to let it go in favor of a WOW2 or something like that.

That's an interesting thought. I've played plenty of single-player RPGs that would have been wonderful as MMOs. I can see the opposite working fairly well. Dark Souls has straddled the line fairly well. I think it could certainly be done.

I don't know about WoW, though. I was never sold on the story. I was just there to play with friends!
