Via this forum as well as a few of the other players, I can't help but feel like there's been some miscommunication about the game outside of actually playing it. Before, I was always told that people were inconsiderate and rude to new players when it comes to World of Warcraft. However, I haven't received this type of treatment from any player in game or on the forums at all yet. In all honesty, on the rare occasion someone in game does talk to me, it's usually to be helpful or to say hello.

I feel like a lot of the bad hype might come from pvp realms or rp realms maybe since I have yet to play either of those yet. (going to be a panda on the pvp realms if I can. I like pandas). However, I've heard nothing really bad about them either from actual WoW players. In the end, I guess what I'm trying to figure out is how or why people seem to claim that most WoW players are inherently jerks for some reason. The misconception is astronomical to me.

It depends on the person's attitude toward the game really and how long they have been playing the game. For me, newer people usually hate it when they pvp with other players and lose, which creates a biased opinion that this game consists of mean people out to get them.

I've always played on a PvE/Normal realm, and I geneally play Horde. In the 8+ years I've been playing, I rarely run into rude people, and when I do they are often arrogant little 10-year-olds in a 5-man dungeon run. I often lag behind in the amount of DPS my character does (although I still contribute well enough to get the job done). I'll get rude comments about my poor choice in gear or stats and I've even been kicked out because they didn't want to play with someone they didn't think was at their level. However, as I said, those occurrences have been pretty rare. Out in the wider world, most folks seem, by-and-large, very friendly and helpful.

It's really a question of luck, most of the time you will meet great people that want to help you. Sometimes though, you run into that rude person whose sole goal is to make your life miserable in the game. What I do when I encounter someone like this is just leave the game for a while and come back later. Unless I'm doing something important, in which case I just bear with it until I'm done. This is very rare though, so I wouldn't worry too much about it if you're a new player.

The misconception isn't always a misconception, though. There are truly some rude and ruthless WoW players, but you usually won't run into them with any regularity.

It largely depends on the server you're on and what kind of playstyle you're into. Some servers have horrible reputations like Moonguard due to RP trolls hanging out in Goldshire. PvE/RP only realms have less ganking/camping since the players are more interested in the environment aspect of the game. PvP servers have more griefers since they're catered to world PvP players. With any game there's always going to be trolls and griefers. Because people are pretty much anonymous online, they can get away with being trolls. But the overall, the WoW community is a lot more friendly than Xbox Live and League of Legends.

I think we fixate on the bad, and ignore the good. Obviously, when someone is being a troll and extremely toxic while playing, then his actions will be more ingrained into your mind. However, I urge you to pay attention to the good, whoever has been patient with you or whoever has given you useful tips. There will always be trolls, but ignoring them will make your playing experience much better.

I don't think that there are that many rude and mean people in World of Warcraft. It is just that there is so many people, that you will meet those kind of people frequently. I just ignore any rude people and move on, it doesn't really bother me anymore, and I encourage people to just ignore rude and mean people.

When I play Wow, nobody ever talks in chat, like EVER. I don't know why, but even if i say hi as I do emojis and follow them, they don't respond. It's almost like everyone in the game is a robot or something. I'm too scared of going on the forums since I'm a noob , and all the level 99 paladins with 10 accounts will scream at how low leveled I am.

I've never heard of this misconception but I'm sure it's entirely possible because people just like to rain on other people's parades. I never did much interaction with many people in WoW since I just played with a friend a few times. But a few people sent me a couple random friend requests so I just went with it. If anything I'm surprised that there aren't rumours going around about how nice everyone in WoW is.
