I know this is just wishful thinking amongst a group of Metro 2033 veterans, but I really pray that the developers make a sort of Metro 2033 mode or something of the sorts, where the enemies are just as keen as they were in 2033. It scares me intensely every time I watch the trailer and it seems that the knife is button-triggered, and doesn't have it's own slot anymore. :(

I know exactly what you mean, it's almost as if they are casualizing the experience to "appeal to a broader audience" or something. Nothing pisses me off more than developers dumbing down their games. But we'll see.

One thing I noticed in the trailer (which was done on purpose so he could go in guns blazing) was that he didn't have any "lifebar". The player was shot to pieces, but there was no blood on the screen. Of course, when we play the game, we won't be invulnerable, so it will be scarier. Especially on hard or Ranger mode. :)

I'm really hoping they don't make it any easier than Metro 2033. The scariness, vulnerability, and necessity for some stealth created that extra little touch of atmosphere, which made the game EPIC! :) We will see...

Good AI engineering is really, really hard, especially in regards to stealth. It's very easy to make the computer too stupid and equally easy to make it too perceptive. Metro 2033 wasn't perfect in this regard; enemies tended to be pretty thick until you triggered an alarm, at which point it was as though someone flipped the AI switch from "dumb" to "psychic". Not a deal-breaker, but pretty jarring nevertheless.

4A proved they have a keen eye for detail with most of Metro 2033, however, and I'd love to see them apply that kind of work to their AI, behaviors, and routines. I guess time will tell.

I read one comment in a walkthrough: "Stepping on broken glass will alert the entire Nazi army and send them into a wild bloodlust". Cracked me up. :) Yeah, they say they're revamping the entire stealth system. This won't necessarily make it easier, hopefully just more realistic, and with a grey zone.

As Nod2033 said, could be just the demo, maybe they wound the perceptiveness down so that he could sneak around more quickly? I dunno. :p

I am sincerely sorry my friends of the metro for necromancing within this thread, but I have nowhere else to rant and it directly relates to this thread I created (what felt like) eons ago. So here we go:

    - Here is to sincerely hoping that by some act of love for Metro Vets by 4A Games they implement a Metro 2033 mode...(Not going to happen ) Here is some strictly wishful thinking:

(Bear in mind this is just speculation, nothing is concrete)

    - Slower charger handle crank speeds (Did anyone notice in the E3 2012 demo that Artyom charged the hand charger with lightning ferocity/speed? I would personally like to see it the same speed)

    - Selectable knife slot (My reasoning for this is because whenever I wasn't in combat I would have the knife out. In addition to this, having a text-sensitive button command to use Artyom's knife may likely mean that using the combat knife never fails, while in the first game you had no clue if the knife would kill the enemy or simply knock him back and alarm the other troops.)

    - The option/ability to use Artyom's old watch rather than the new one, as well as his old gloves. (Call me nostalgic, but I feel like I won't feel the same going through the game without kicking it in his old rags/with his old watch.)

    - A mode where the enemy AI is relevant of that in 2033. (The more I play 2033, the more I realize the enemy AI wasn't terribly off. Let's use the Nazi outpost as an example: say for instance you shot one lone scout and it ricocheted off of his armor/pack, he in turn rings one of the conveniently placed bells to alarm the rest of the troops. The reason they are all on your ass and know relatively where you are is not because of bad AI, but because they have probably been training for this since they joined the Third Reich, and have a pretty good idea of where you came from due to where the alarm was sounded <-- Speculating bastard right there )

That is all for now, I am about to watch the E3 2012 footage again, and I'll probably edit this with more things I'd like to see in a Metro 2033 mode. Ridiculing me may commence NOW! "Ha ha ha! The vodka kicks everyone's ass!"

False. I started a new playthrough and on Black Station I stepped on some glass. I got a "what could that be?" and then his Nazi friends made fun of him and told him it was a rat, or a ghost, and everything went back to normal.

Although that comment is hilarious :D

I totally Agree on those points especially on the first one. Everything that Artyom is doing seem a litle to fast for my taste.
But if there is one good thing about it is that it is easily fixed (I hope), just slow down the animations.

I agree with these. I would rather the knife function as it did in 2033, except I'd like it if the knife was always lethal from the back but not from the front. Trying to knife a guy in the back, in the dark, silently, and instead winding up just hurting him and bringing the whole armada on my ass sucked in 2033.

I agree with nosalis. But maybe we could have a variation of knife attacks depending on the position of the enemy? Like fighting up close and personal uses more knuckle-duster and hack-and-slash attacks and sneaky-sneaky-assassin is more on backstabbing and pithing.

    P.S.
Nosalis, sorry to say this, but I want to shoot you. Old habits die hard. :eek:hwell:
