I don't know if this has been reported before but on the Steam page it states that the game comes with a:
free copy of Dmitry Glukhovsky's international best-selling novel "Metro 2033", the epic story that started it all.

Which is nice to to begin with. BUT the bonus part is that this isn't a pre-order thing. It is a key feature of the game. This, I think is great because it introduces the new gamer to the glory that is Dmitry Glukhovsky, without being a pre-order bonus, which I think only the cult Metro fans would go for. Thanks 4A/Deep Silver!

  2. Say thanks to Glukhovsky. When US publishers refused to publish his book, he just said "F*ck it, have it for free".

For the American steam store we only get a digital comic. I don't know if that's the book (most likely not) but it doesn't matter. I've got my copy and that's all that matters. Only ironic thing is that you only get the extra bullets in hardcore mode.

It says we get both the book and a comic, actually.

The comic is a preordering feature. And all who buy MLL will get a digital copy of the book Metro 2033.

The Metro 2033 digital novel copy is something we only have the rights to give away in the US, not sure why that is on other Steam store pages!

But yes, this is something we managed to add to the pre-order bonus for the PC crowd in the USA :). We couldn't change everything THQ already had in place, but we tried to add what we could.

I'm sick of USA getting special deals, especially when the game is made from an Eastern European studio, published by a European Publisher. So why do we in Europe continue to get shafted with a pogo stick?

As if the release date wasn't bad enough..

The reason it's for free in the usa is cuase us publishers refused to publish the book.

The rights agreement with the author are only valid for the US, where he self-publishes it as far as I know. Not really a case of that we hate the rest of the world as a European publisher, more a case of "at least we can give this away to some people rather than not at all."

Yep he self publishes it. But when he went to us publishers for a more wide scale release they asked him to prove himself in the usa first. He said I'm a huge seller in the UK and crap. And they said but the uk is not the usa. So he went "I'M MAD AS HELL AND I'M NOT GONNA STAND THIS ANYMORE" (not really his real words :p)
I got all this info from his latest interview if you want to know :)

He's not really that big of a deal in the UK, but he is pretty well known in the rest of Europe (even outside of Eastern Europe). Btw, guys, I wouldn't be too angry about the free digital version of the book being a US-only deal. It's no secret that most of us European fans of the game have already read the books and some of us are even into the Universe of Metro 2033 series. Metro is much less known in the US, so I doubt that many American fans of the first game have read the original book.

And if you're a European that still hasn't read the novel, then you can get a much nicer physical copy of it from Amazon or your local bookstore. It has been translated into a ton of languages, including English. If you can speak Polish, German, Italian, Spanish (or any other of the languages that have these translations) then you can also grab Metro 2034, Piter, Towards the Light, Into the Darkness and the others while you're at it. Fans who only know English will soon be able to read an official English translation of 2034 too. ;)

I'm not sure what the Australian pre-order deals are exactly, but unless the Aussie distributor also made a deal with Dmitry about giving away the novel with pre-orders, I doubt it.

    So I expect "no".
