I think it's a bad thing, who knows what they will do. Mojang know's what people like. Not too sure about Microsoft. What's your opinion?

I don't think it's a bad thing. The game is already at a certain point where it can be sustainable and profitable even with just minor maintenance and I think a big company like MS is a good enough entity to be able to fulfill that need. I'm guessing they will probably focus more on spinoffs and licensing as well so I'm looking forward to what other products we get from this IP.

I don't feel like there will be any bad major changes, as the game is already established and if Microsoft changed anything for the worse, a large portion of the playerbase would leave anyways.

I think it is a bad thing. Microsoft is money hungry and trying to make more money by making a second game, instead of focusing on updates. Gameloft did a similar thing with OAC, and so far the second one is a flop, and people are clinging to the first one. I imagine the same thing will happen with Minecraft.

So far, the acquisition of Mojang by Microsoft has not had any adverse effects on Minecraft. Therefore, I think we need to wait and see for another year or two before we can fully determine if Minecraft is actually going to flunk or fly due to Microsoft. It will also be interesting to see if Microsoft will get back their 2 billion dollar investment in the future.

@coolyfrost Microsoft is still rich and powerful. That I will admit. They have their hand in both Android and IOS as well as other projects. I am sure they will make their money back one way or the other. I just don't want to see them make a 2.

Minecraft is on it's way out at the moment to competition, so it's all ok. The thing is that microsoft will expand upon minecraft and use it as a tool for making money with their OS, which should mean broad support and lots of updates in the future. The competition for virtual reality already created a lot of stuff that is way more advanced than minecraft, so it should be just fine going into the future.

I don't think there will be an issue with this. The only thing I can see happening that might be negative, is Minecrft becoming more exclusive. Like if Microsoft owns Minecraft, it might be restricted from Sony or Apple products. That means no Minecraft for PS4, or Playstation VR, or even on a Mac. It might become more exclusive to Microsoft and Windows.

Well it could go either way. I can see it being bad if they don't listen to fans and keep to the heart of what it's all about.

On the other hand, what if they create something we can't even imagine? Maybe they will have the ability to do something really awesome with it?

In the end, no matter what there will be those that are happy about it and those that hate it.

Feeling mutual. I think that a Minecraft 2 would make no sense at all. The updates that Minecraft is making is good enough content to make it a nearly everlasting game for both children and adults.

I'm cautiously optimistic. It was clear that the leads at Mojang had played out either their interest or capabilities in expanding Minecraft and hopefully an acquisition by a major publisher will light a fire under them and give them the resources to improve and expand the game. I'm especially interested in how the treatment of modders is handled from here on out.

Yeah, there's always going to be controversy about anything having to do with a company buying something or a merger. I don't think it will be bad, though. Something good could come from Mojang and Microsoft teaming up. It's only a matter of time before we see it.

Personally, I'm more worried about Disney buying Star Wars, and everything else for that matter, than Microsoft acquiring Minecraft. So far, Minecraft seems to be doing well, and the updates for the console versions (which are always poor compared the PC anyway) are coming in more frequently. So far so good, but they honestly haven't had the IP for all that long yet. Time will tell, but I'm hopeful!

Microsoft won't do anything bad to the game. I think they'll try to take it into the holographic world. VR and other tech that MIcrosoft is fiddling with would work well in an immersive game like Minecraft - they have the creative team to make the world about as real as can be.

This is pretty old news, and I think Minecraft benefited from Microsoft's acquisition. They have a more potent developer team that can take the game to the next level.

I think if were minecraft was still in the very early stages of development it would be cause to worry. The game itself is pretty much complete and really there isn't much ways to screw up an already successful completed game. I say that now with very cautious steps. I may have just jinxed myself. We will see. This is microsoft we are talking about. The new 1.9 update was ok considering. But I think it could have been better.

We will see, it is hard to tell because you only have one path, we do not know that would have happened if they hadn´t of made the purchase.

My own thought is that indie game developers are usually happy with making a ton of money, they don´t try to squeeze every nickle possible out of fanbase. When MSFT buys something as expensive as Minecraft, you know it is about money.. they have a plan, and that plan involves getting every nickle they can.

I just think of how Bioware lost its soul when it was bought.

I stated this in another thread, but I'll echo it here. I think it's an okay move, I have confidence that Microsoft knows what they're doing with that purchase. I don't think the game will suffer, only benefit.

I think it's a good news for the users because as the game is established since a long time and Microsoft is buying it then I think it will make major changes to make the game look more interesting to play and it will be really interesting to wait for the new updated version of the game by Microsoft.I will be eagerly waiting for this.

I don't think it matters all that much, and since Microsoft has purchased it, not all that much has changed. Microsoft simply has the resources to to spread Minecraft (Not that wasn't everywhere before the buyout, but I digress.) so it's really only a good thing for the game and fans of the game.
