What do you guys think will happen to the game now that they own Mojang? I don't think they will change much in game, but have changes to the marketing style and funding. Thoughts?

Since Microsoft is a really big company we'll probably see some pretty cool updates in the future, especially since they have a lot of really good developers. I'm curious to see if they'll market the game better than before.

So maybe they will combine devs with Mojang creating a larger team? that could be pretty cool, more updates with more content!

They will probably make the game more modular than it is now, for both client and server side. As of now, it's a pain in the ass to update the game and its plugins for server side. At least, that's what I would do as a developer.

I'm waiting for a C++ native client. Not sure if it was promised, but it's bound to happen sooner or later.

Java is cute and easy to get into for inexperienced programmers, but it's not really a platform you want to build a complex game upon. It's slow, unstable and pretty much unsafe if you're not constantly updating it for security fixes. And boy, these nagging update notifications are terrible.

That's exactly what happened. They didn't only purchase the game but they also bought some of the Minecraft's developing team. They're going to combine and work further.

That would be cool, however I am not sure how much input Microsoft devs have on the development side of things in the game, rather than a marketing standpoint.

So true! Sometimes I ignore them for weeks xD... however some client side switches would be much useful, as java is for.... novice programmers

Wasn't the Xbox version made by a separate small team endorsed by Microsoft? Correct me if I'm wrong, but if I'm right, this fact alone reveals that Microsoft already has a lot to say when it comes to the development process.

It was not endorsed by Microsoft, I THINK. It was an independent company that took the game and made it there own, although I can't think of the name right now.

It was developed by 4J studios in cooperation with Mojang and Microsoft Studios. So Microsoft is involved too.

Well all it essentially means is that Minecraft has tons more money to work on updates and not have to worry so much about releasing more games. It is essentially the same as Disney buying Marvel, it just adds a ton more money to be available which can only be a good thing.

I have to agree with you. I'm sure Microsoft will ruin it, though. I could see Minecraft becoming more integrated with Windows Phone and Xbox than it already is. Maybe we'll see Windows Phone Minecraft exclusives.

Personally I wouldn't like to see that. It takes away from developing the original game, the one EVERYONE plays.
