Ok, so im a PC gamer and absolutely love mmorpgs. I used to play WoW, but the $15.00 monthly fee; i just couldn't do it. Now im on a search to find a game "*Like* WoW but Free, same game play along with quests, different classes, items, weapons, armor, and a vast world to explore. *Good* graphics not great but still decent, and a friendly populated community of players to interact with.

Runescape, Maplestory, or Mabinogi are the best I can tell you. Outside of those 3 anything that's like WOW and free really isn't worth it. I don't even know if Maplestory and Mabinogi are online anymore too.

Lineage 2 fits the bill. It's probably the best one out there that's pretty close to WOW. It's pretty old, but the player base was still pretty solid last I remember.

Try Perfect World Online, it takes a while to download/install but the graphics are great and it's really fun. It fits all of your requirements too

Neverwinter is probably your next best bet or Tera. Both free, both massive games with pretty graphics.

I really don't think there is a free game that is truly like WoW. That said there are a lot for really good free MMORPGs out there. Arc, Steam, and Daybreak have a lot of good games to try.

I never considered the possibility of a free WoW alternative. I always assumed I'd have to pony up the $15 to get anything remotely WoW-like. I haven't played any of the listed games so I can't vouch for them, but I do think it would be hard to find a copycat of WoW in terms of not only pretty graphics but game support and gameplay itself. That said, I'm definitely going to look into these games. The $15 in my opinion is totally justified and reasonable, but still not an expensive that I can always incur. Our monthly "money to burn" budget has been rapidly declining and I live in a household full of Netflix addicts, so in a war of subscriptions, Bob's Burgers is going to totally defeat my blood elf.

There are plenty of good free MMORPGs out there with quests, group instances, raids, wasd controls etc... That said If you want WoW specifically you should probably pay for it.

There are a ton of free wow-clones now. Rift, Star Wars, Wildstar and TESO. My personal favorite non-wow MMORPG is Dungeons and Dragons Online, but it really isn“t a wow clone and plays a lot different.

WoW itself...the clones can't really compare just because of the nature of WoW and its sheer content alone. Free MMO's- that's a different story. I had no idea Wildstar went F2P... I should check that out haha.

I'd recommend Rift. It's pretty much a WoW clone but has some real improvements, and isn't pay2win at all.

I agree. the only one that started off as a clone was Rift but it has developed into its own game after a few years.

Wild star is going free to play sometime soon, you can sign up on their site right now to get into the "beta" testing phases of it. I recommend it. It's a fun game.

There's this one I've seen that have eerily similar character and armor styles to WoW. I can't say that it's the same gameplay as WoW, but I'm trying to find the name for you.

Alright, the game I'm referring to is Allods Online. I'm considering trying it tonight because my WoW subscription has temporarily lapsed. I've been curious about it, but not enough to actually try it out.

Wildstar is basically a clone of WOW-vanilla, back to the era when raiding was hardcore and elite.

And yes, they are clones in my opinion. You level up doing quests with a few other options, and then when you hit level cap you start raiding, and the purpose of that is to get incremental gear upgrades.... and every few months, you get a new raid that gives you slightly better items.

But that is all just a clone of the original EQ model.

Wildstar is becoming free to play and I'm actually looking at giving it a try. I like that it takes some time to actually master the gameplay.

The issue most MMO's run into the post-WoW era is they only get a few months to make a positive impression, and if they don't, they don't get a second chance. SWOTR was the same way. So we'll see if F2P will bring back players and give the game a boost.

There are tons of alternatives, but I still think that WoW is the best of the best. I'm not going to recommend any of the alternatives for that reason. I'm sure you can find a few free options that suit your fancy, though.

If you want to play "older" WoW, then look around for various vanilla, TBC or Wrath private servers, most of them are fairly well-scripted at this day and age.

That's a good point there. There are quite a few Free to Play MMOs listed up on Steam, and I'm sure that you could find something that would fit your criteria if you look there.

Runescape is a good F2P game like WOW, but you are limited on what you can do without paying for membership.

To be fair, WoW has something like that as well. You can play up to level 20 for free. You can keep playing and just stay level 20 forever, but honestly there isn't anyone that wants to do that in WoW. I don't know that anyone would want to be limited on what they can do in Runescape either because they aren't paying for a membership.
