Are there are specific mods that aren't on the Steam Workshop for PC that are extremely good and enhance the game? Anything with like more/new stories in the game or new armor and weapons that I'm not aware of? I'm trying to get back into playing Skyrim but it seems like the modding community has dropped off lately and has obviously moved onto other games and other things. Or anything else interesting that people should try out I suppose too.
Did you play Falskaar mod already? I heard it is one of the best story-add mods for Skyrim. The guy who created this mod tried to get a work at Bethesda, but I think they rejected him. It's definitely worth to try, it was a very long time on the TOP of 10 the best mods for Skyrim.
I agree with Lucas. I have heard good reviews of Falskaar and might consider playing it myself after I build a computer.
Skyrim Nexus is my go-to place for mods. But this was before the Steam Workshop and I'm not entirely sure of what kind of cross-over there is between the two. But, from my experience, if there is a mod for Skyrim, you'll find it on the Nexus: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/?
SKSE is sort of a mod that you can't find on the Steam Workshop. It's required on a lot of mods on the workshop anyway, so it's probably beneficial to get it. Skyrim Nexus is also a really good alternative to the Steam Workshop.
I believe there's some degree of separation between the two platforms. Each one has some exclusive mods, or at least mods that don't exist on the other side.
Like a previous poster, I'm not entirely sure of the degree of separation so forgive me if I name a bunch of things that are kind of a re-hash. I found myself recently spending a few hours just going over the mods on the Nexus, and there are a few that I really like. I like mods that increase immersion in a fun way, not a tedious way. For that, I like the Touring Carriages, Live another Life, Death Alternative...I have one that I think is called Darker Nights or something like that...basically it makes the nights darker. I Frostfall, but found it just was too much.
Steam workshop in my opinion isn't the best place to get mods from. As some previous posts have suggested getting mods from the Skyrim Nexus is a far better alternative. There are more mods, and a number of very high quality mods. As well you get far better download options when you are on the Nexus. Go browse the Nexus and it's top files you might find something you like or that interests you. There are so many high quality mods that exist, and I recommend just looking through the mods.
I had a great posts. If you look under the Categories on nexus, though, you will see some options that should help. Things like Immersion, Locations - New, Guilds/Factions, Quests and Adventures, and many more that promise to add something to the game.
You could find mods of it on Nexus, there are a bunch of mods there. Falskaar is one of the best mods on Skyrim, but my personal favorite is Thomas the Tank engine mod and other bunch of mods.
