Sometimes, in certain games, a moogle might be a shopkeep or a gamesaver. While, in other games, a chocobo might be breedable or rideable and helpful in some way. The point is that both have perks that usually make them helpful in the games that house their roles. The question is which one do you think personally is more useful on the whole? Why?
Probably Chocobos, since they are being used as a workforce for everything from transportation to agriculture, depending on the game. Moogles are cuter, but not really needed, I feel.
It varies a lot in each game. Aladar brings up a good point, thinking of the game's world instead of the game itself. In the games' worlds, chocobos seem to generally be a lot more useful. Anyway, as for us, the players, it just varies a lot. Chocobos almost always have the same use: being a mount and used mostly for transportation but also to dig and find hidden items. However, Moogles vary a lot. Sometimes moogles are useless, but sometimes they offer invaluable services such as shops or saving or even a mailing system. There's also a moogle that works as an invaluable shapeshifting weapon (FFXIII-2, and that's just one of its abilities!). So yeah, on the whole, it's hard to pin down which is more useful for us players, unless we do it on a game-by-game basis.
Chocobos, definitely! They can provide transportation, as well as being a pack mule for others. The cute little creatures are just more like donkeys in this new world. Moogles are helpful, such as being saving stations and shopkeepers. Don't get me wrong, I just love Moogles to pieces and couldn't live without them in the games, but the Chocobos help speed up travel times in the game.
Moogles are increasing in use in the recent Final Fantasy games; heck one of them is your class adviser in one. I like Chocobos better though; they've saved my party countless of times, and made exploration always easier. In Final Fantasy IV, you'll really need the assistance of Black Chocobos for initial flight, and there's the White ones for MP. Of course, fat chocobos are there for fun...err..storage! Hahaha! Moogles are a better mascot character for me though, but in terms of usefulness, it's chocobos hands down!
Moogles are just to dang cute to ignore, though! The transportation and storage is the most important things about the Chocobos. As for the cuteness scale, we all know Moogles are pretty high up on the scale. At least, for me anyway.
Varies on the game but FF9 was extremely Moogle heavy and they played a role into the game with their letters being hints and providing side quests. They were also save points and could be summoned in world maps, ect. That being said...Chocobos are extremely useful for transportation haha. But in the end it just boils down to the game itself.
I think aesthetically, Chocobos are definitely cooler. However, I have a soft spot in my heart for moogles from playing Crystal Chronicles a lot in single player mode. The moogle had to be your partner and carry the chalice for you since you had not partners to do it. We went through a lot battles together!
If you refer to after the Final Fantasies after 9, I would say Chocobos but if you take into account FF8 and FF9 in particular, you'll notice they were in fact a quite prominent figure in both games, especially FF9. I think on average due to their benefits, unique tips, item giving in some games, and their creative mini-games made them a bit more appealing to me, at least. Final Fantasy 7 though for example put a big emphasis on the Chocobo usage though and Moogles weren't really seen in that universe. As you go back, the Chocobos were more and more important and Moogles were less and less. When you go into the future, it seems that the Moogles have kind of faded more into obscurity and the Chocobos are taking the charge again, so to speak.
Moogles are in most cases the more inteligent race capable of speech, so I assume they can get quite useful as shopkeepers and such. Chocobos however are extremely good for traveling, and they are also used for sports and betting, so I'd say their useful-ness is about equal!
