I think we should get a few polls going so that 4A and THQ can see what people want easily. We already have the Multiplayer poll, so here's the mutant poll. If there is a choice I haven't given, just tell me and I'll add it. Multiple choices are allowed.

Choose which mutants you'd most like to see, and leave any comments you think worth giving.

I think it'd be cool to have lovecraftian creatures in the game. Maybe another version of an amoeba in the form of Shoggoth? xD

I like when the monsters are bigger than you (but not to big) it gives you the felling that your not the biggest bird in the cage. I mean with the 'lurkers' from 2033 you never really felt like they were stronger and deadlier than you. But librarians and deamons on the other hand are a lot more intimidating.

And I agree with Von, twisty schrecking deformed monsters scare the he'll otta me. Like the monsters form the remake of "The Thing". Hhhuuuuuuuggghh!

In the book at d6, there where some kind of liquid monster which hyptonizes Artyom and the rangers. It would be cool if it could make a apperience or some similar kind of mutant.

I never felt intimidated by any creatures because they were all so easy to kill. I'd like more bullet feedback for different creatures. Now in LL we saw creatures underground which had more of a thicker skin/armour. So if I hit them in an area which is impenetrable then I'd like some sounds and visual feedback.

Games like Gears of War did this very well, where creatures with different abilities would have vulnerable weak spots.

Here is one example of a battle:

That would actualy be realy cool. You could take it a step further and make one that is totally invulnerable and you need to evade and run from it. And then you need to blow the tunnel to stop it.

The only problem I see is that with Gears of War not only would you encounter creatures as you progress but then you'd also get "Boss Fights".

Metro 2033 didn't really have anything like this. The Librarian's were not a problem, as my volt driver quickly took them out or even my throwing knives.

It's hard to describe but I wasn't challenged by any mutant as my spray and pray tactics worked. With Gears you really had to work hard and tactically think how to kill different creatures.

Maybe this will make the game too action oriented which people won't like.

Perhaps, but it need some stronger mutants cause as you said some spray and even the hardes mutans fall you just need some bullets.
So if you have the bullets you basically don't need to fear any mutants. If you on the other side have some realy tough enemies, your gonna find your self running with fear cause your bullets just scrach them.

I think it was fine as it was, I dont like trying to find some weak point. If a bullet hits something its gonna hit something that's not carrying Armour then its gonna Penetrate and do damage.

Now sure things that have some kinda Natural armour would be fine, but not overdone.
I would personally want to see some more things like with the melee with the first encounter when you stab one though the bottom of his mouth and your companion shotguns him. As long as theirs different 'Events' and their very Random they would add a fair bit to the Mutants

Yeah, good points from Wolve there :3
I want mutants more like the Hunter from Left For Dead. Mutants that are more agile, can climb walls and pipes and are really sneaky and assassin-ish, like the part in Metro where you're on your way to D6 and get split from the group, then there's the nosalis coming through the roof with glowing eyes.

Also some sick and twisted ones who scare the heck out of you. Camouflaged mutants. Like geckos? You know, all the mutants in metro have signs of once being some sort of animal, like a pig or a rat. Gecko-mutants would be awesome. I think every mutant should have signs of ever being an animal.

Other than that, I'm very satisfied with the mutants from Metro2033. The librarians were big, the demons were flying. Both had their own special ability, and I don't think there should be several different mutants with the same abilities. The regular mutants were awesome, seeing that there were actually three different regulars, like Nosalises, "tunnel-trash" and ... those rats. The biggest threat for me must have been the librarians, but just because they were unrealistically difficult to kill. Other than that, I saw the lurkers as the enemy with most potential. Team-work, lurking behind you , above you and below you; everywhere. As a fresh-man, I had really big difficulties with actually ever noticing them approach me, and even greater difficulty to actually shoot them, as they run away so friggen fast.

I hated that beast. It was so annoying, it made it impossible to gather the ammo, even if you were constantly scouting around, it would just find another way to attack you. However, intelligent mutants would be appreciated. Just like where the librarian lays some ammo in those bathrooms. That was scary, because it showed that they weren't just gun-food, but actually thinking creatures.

I want that survival horror element to remain in Metro. Mutants should be feared and have different abilities. The game should really encourage use of currency amo when the dirty rounds just aren't doing enough damage. This should work for both humans and mutants.

I know 4A said they were giving more visual and audio feedback when you hit someone with heavy armour, such as sparks flying off armour and ping sounds when bullets penetrate. This should also be relayed in some form when you're in combat against different kinds of mutants.

We saw in the last section of the LL trailer that Artyom killed a mutant easily with the helsing whilst it had no effect on the larger heavier armoured mutant; then he ran to the mini gun by the time he fired he got hit and died.

This is what I'd like to see more of. In other words a different tactic and weapon choice is needed to kill mutants effectively.

Some very interesting points here, and an interesting result in the poll. Of course, these "new" mutants wouldn't replace the classics from Metro 2033, they'd just be added alongside the existing ones.

Any thoughts on the weird scorpion-style one in the video. It's only a glimpse, but if you pause it you can see it. (Some of you guys have probably seen this video already).

Would be nice to see some slightly over done effects when using Military Grade rounds, sure in RL it would just make a nice hole, but in Metro I think maybe it butchering Weaker mutants and Guys.

Maybe even have the Dirty rounds have a less of a effect? maybe bouncing off light Armour and the such?

But with Mutants, I dont think its a good Idea to have to many Specialised ones like the spiders and such, more average tunnel Trash would be nice, Less Big and Epic, More Small(ish) and Numerous

There does need to be a bigger difference between MGR and dirty ammo, especially if the exchange rate is 1 MGR:10 Dirty Rounds. I think my most feared mutant would be one that is small, and agile. It would be difficult to hit, making the player waste oh-so-valuable ammunition.

Luckily, Huw Beynon, someone with THQ, confirmed that there will NOT be amoeba in Last Light.
