Why do [people play Nami more than other? I like Taric or Janna better. Am I missing something?

Well, I think her bubble ability alone, really makes her strong. Plus, she has great healing abilities and not to mention her ultimate which goes very well if used together with her Q. With Janna, if you want to use her typhoon ability, it will take awhile to charge up and that kind of lets her opponents see when she will use it which makes it easier to dodge. I also think when it comes to ganks, Nami's ultimate comes of better use because it can knock up all enemies who gets impacted by the wave. Taric only has a dazzle and it is only meant to stun 1 enemy. But I honestly see alot of Janna and Taric players too nowadays. It's not only Nami that gets picked.

I don't see a lot of nami's in my games, but she is definitely strong, great cc and her healing is pretty good too if used correctly.
    I should buy her. :p

The meta right now really favors supports that have healing. Nami is perfect for that because she can play both aggressively or passively. Her crowd control is quite strong, and her damage boost and healing are both really good for the AD carry. She's definitely one of the top tier picks right now, especially if played properly.

I don't play Nami very often, nor do I see a whole bunch of her, but I think she's played because of the CC she has with just her bubble alone, it's able to keep someone in place and can be used for saving someone, securing a kill, or even giving the jungler a helping hand when they come down to gank. Not to mention, she's really good in team fights because of her ult.. Which can be used for engaging or even disengaging.

She's a pretty well-rounded, annoying champion that can be really good if you have a little bit of experience with playing her.

Nami and Janna are pretty close. Nami has huge heals which give great sustasin. Also tons of CC.

Nami has a lot of CC. Her aqua prison can get a kill if it lands on a gank. Her ultimate is amazing for initiating team fights.

She's a heal bot really. Easy to come back from trades that went poorly and she has a steroid for the AD's from her E. R and Q are great for catching out targets/disengage.

I perfect Taric especially since he is my main. I feel like Taric can just initiate team fights very well and his armor shatter is just pure greatness. He also has a heal, stun, and a teammate boost.

In my opinion, Nami is one of those hit or miss champs (quite literally, if you consider her Q). She can be incredibly effective at the hands of someone who is great with skill shots, and it's hard to turn down any champion that can perform a heal. However, it can be argued that Sona and Taric are just as effective with healing, just as Janna is with skill shots. Ultimately, I would say it comes down to how much your ADC needs to be babysat early game. If it is a squishy champion like Ashe, some extent of sustain is good to have (not to mention that Nami's E packs an extra punch to what Ashe's toggled Q already does); however, Nami will very much hold back the laning process if she is partnered with an ADC that relies on melee poke skill, like Graves. Basically, what I'm trying to say is, that Nami is often picked because she is the ultimate babysitter. It all depends on your support style.

Nami is very good at both disengage and engage with her bubble and wave. She's also a good healer with her W, and is also able to buff the adc by giving damage/slow with her E and also giving movement speed.

Nami is a popular choice because of her disengage (ultimate) sustain, and cc. She has everything a support could want. Her bubble is great for laning and catching out enemies, she has very good sustain and a slow. Her disengage and peel potential is also really strong, and as a result, she is a huge team fight presence unlike other supports that just offer sustain or just offer cc.

Some of it is whatever LCS is doing, players like to follow suit. Other is personal preference.

I switch between many supports. Nami is really fun to play and works very well in many comps.
She has two different CCs (her bubble and her ult) as well as a heal that bounces to damage, which is nice and unique.

Nami is played because her synergy works best compared to other supporting champions, and because her CC is overall more welcome than others. 2 ability which deal enormous CC is definitely something I'd say.

Though now she doesn't seem to be as played as in her initial release span, at least not on my server.

I haven't seen her much either. (Granted the op here was over a year ago?)
But yeah, many of the older supports are falling off because they aren't as aggro, mobile, or omni-capable as many of the newer ones. The real name of the game now is CC, and with supports like Leona and Thresh, or Annie even, why would people bother playing... say... Taric? (Though I do love me some good Taric.)

I play a lot of support and Nami works well with a 5 protecting 1 comp, with an ADC that can do some decent burst, or with a proficient Orianna on the team. Hitting bubbles on whole teams after a nice Shockwave is a special feeling.
I'm just Gold though, so it might be because people here don't dodge that well, who knows.

Whenever I roll Vayne ADC, there's nothing I prefer more than a Nami; Not even a blitzcrank (although he's a close second!) Nami has a very strong utility and nothing beats her stun for getting a lot of damage in! Sure there is Leona with her stuns, but I never like having a tank down bot, because I try to play passive early game anyways. Nami is ranged which makes it really easy to poke and difficult for the enemy team to get a hit on us.

Nami is a peeling support who has both engage and disengage in her kit, making her an obvious choice for anyone who needs both. Which is why Vayne's love Nami so much.
Leona doesn't work all that well because of the fact that she's purely engage, and Taric is a bad support at the moment altogether, waiting for that rework to see if he can finally see some love for a change.
Overall, she can peel really nicely for carries, is herself pretty mobile, and has the strongest healing/damage ability in the game.
