Hello everybody! I am currently on the market for a new a MMORPG to play and I stumbled upon Civilization. What can you tell me about this game? How are the gaming mechanics? What about the storyline? How does it compare to other MMORPGs such as World of Warcraft, Everquest, or Star Wars: The Old Republic? Thank you!
...Civilization is not a MMORPG and can not even be remotely compared to the games you listed. It's a series of very, very addicted strategy games that are very fun and well worth playing however... they just aren't MMOs.
I'm surprised you were able to avoid it. Civilizations has been around for a very long time and has been reincarnated several times. I'm glad you finally gave into your curiosity, be prepared for a treat.
You can play Civilization online and I guess you can play roles (as nation leader) but it's not an MMORPG, it's an RTS (Real Time Strategy) game so if you're into that then definitely give it a shot. It's addictive but fun!
Ah okay. So it is a bit like SimCity in that you have to manage various mechanics of the game in real time? I just assumed it was an MMO considering it was posted on an MMORPG forum... excuse my ignorance.
It's similar but different. I think you should really try out the game and get a feel for it yourself, you won't regret it.
Okay I am sold! Should I wait until the new one comes out in October or should I play the previous installments?
I am always down for some addictive fun.... anything to give me an excuse to not get work done... haha XD
There's some similarities between the two, yes but they are overall much different game. SimCity is entirely a simulation style game, and while Civilization has some simulation aspects, it is not a sim.
Ha, tell me about it. I missed a lot of freelance work time just because I played Civilization, it's definitely addicting and you'll end up playing it for hours.
I guess it's useful that this guy asked this question, I was about to ask this question because I feel like I should focus on some other games mentioned in this forum, just didn't know which one. When I eventually stumbled upon this, I didn't actually know what to post exactly.
Yes it is not a MMORPG, but it is a great game, and I am also a bit surprised that have managed to go so long without hearing of it or playing it. If you enjoy strategy, and a little bit of history, then it is a perfect game for you. I might be a little biased just because it is one of my favorites, but it is very addicting so just beware of that.
It's great and it will keep you focused a lot like an mmorpg would but it's not the same exactly. I'd say try it out at least and see if it is for you because it is a good game and definitely worth a shot.
Why wait, civilizations V are excellent game. I don't doubt that after playing it when the next civilizations game comes out you will want to buy it as soon as it hits the shelf.
Ha ha... You're not the only one. I am just starting to play this game as well. We can learn together.
Well, I am sorry to inform you that Civ games are not within the MMORPGs group, however, I might say that is a strategy game that mixes the medieval/military gameplay with some history, cultures, and things of that nature, I really recommend you every single Civilization game but just in case you're looking to play the newest one you shall go ahead and give Civ V a shot since you've never played any other game from the series. Do not worry if you're wrong on what your thoughts about the game were, you're here to learn and we as members are here to teach you just in case you do not know anything regarding the game, good luck around, try Civ V, you will surely love it.
I agree. Even if the new one is coming out this current version is still a great purchase. What's even better is that probably with the release of the new one it will get even cheaper so many newcomers will be more enticed to buy it probably.
I think that for those that could what till now, it's the best time to buy the game. The prices should be dropping as we speak and will drop even more when the new one is launched.
Yup I'm planning on buying some of my friends and relatives the older version once the new one comes out because I'm sure by then prices will drop significantly. For now I think it will remain mostly the same so I'm just gonna wait some more.
