Quite disappointing - and this guy sucks so much. Btw, the lack of animation was actually visible in the other vid you posted as well.

I agree that this is something that should have been implemented in the early stages of development, but let's not be too harsh on 4A. They had to create many other assets for the game as well. ;)

It is a bit worrying though. The game looks, sounds and almost feels great so far, which makes the lack of an animation for climbing ladders all the more immersion-breaking and easier to notice. It would be best if they added it before release. It seems like something too big to overlook, so maybe they just ran into some problems with it.

Don't forget that Metro 2033 was referred to as a "Flawed Masterpiece" and from what I've seen so far Metro Last Light will also be. They need to pay attention to details. Unless there is a slide down ladder animation

In fact I may even start a thread on what is NOT included in Metro LL so far from what we've seen; been told and what we dislike regardless of what build DeepSilver have shown to the public.

Lmao i'd like to see this happen tbf just so I can see what everyone thinks is important enough to be included in the game that isn't already.

Personally I think they're missing some minor details like tactical nukes every 5 kills and a generic, repetitive story with lots of explosions, machine guns and basically invincible companions. Oh and don't forget riot shields, auto-aim, hit markers, 2 meter sprinting distance, dual wielding RPGS, tits, robots, you're an Afro-American woman serving in Delta Force (for equality and all that) fighting Russian terrorist neo nazi zombies from Iraq with swords and bomb vests.

Or maybe they put this in ranger mode only ? The vid doesn't look like ranger mode is enabled to me.

Hurray! No useless animations that only take time and annoy me, a ladder animation is something that doesn't add anything to the experience and only makes it longer to climb a ladder. Not every action needs an animation.

QTE's are useless and I bet they will be in abundance I guarantee it. But adding realism through animations is being neglected. If you can unscrew a light bulb now why can't you climb down a ladder instead of having Arytom acting like a ladder goat?

Realisme is good as long as is doesn't annoy the player, and animations that you get to see over and over are annoying. If it was up to me there wouldn't be an animation for unscrewing light bulbs, Artjom would just turn them on and off, like in Metro 2033.

Realism should be consistent too, if there is animation for climbing up then is there a reason for not having one climbing down?

In some games as you climb down or up you still have control of your peripheral vision, ie you can still look around.

There is an animation for climbing up? Then it's indeed weird there isn't one for climbing down.

The very first trailer we saw for metro LL, not the teaser one, but the mini gun one. The very first scene Arytom climbs down using animation. Was that a cut scene?

In fact let me get the video: 2 mins in.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-qfVVu0xons

Whilst it does not show his hands on the ladder you can see that he takes steps climbing down. The video in the OP he just slides down. Maybe it's just a bad video because also at 30 seconds he just walks past the enemy whilst holding a gun and they ignore him, only to shoot him moments later.

Majnu has a point with the consistency of realism thing. If the majority of the game feels immersive and realistic, then sections that don't look and feel the same will stand out - thus being much easier to notice and annoying for the player. However, I also see how an animation for climbing a ladder or unscrewing a light bulb can slow down gameplay... perhaps including these types of "secondary animations" only in Ranger Mode would be the best way out? That way everyone could have what they want. I'd personally prefer to play realistically over too fast-paced, so I'm fine with the animations but I can see how they could annoy others.

  16. There was none in M2033, worked fine for me.

I'd be disappointed by the lack of idle animations though.

I think that's more of a cut scene but I can't imagine there bein to much trouble implementing something like that into the game.

  20. You climb the rest of the ladders in M2033 without any animations.
