The game will no longer have a mini map for players, instead you will just have a compass for guidance. Apparently this will encourage players to explore the game more. Good idea imho..

I can see this working with a single-player game, but what if you want to meet up with your friends or guild mates? It'll be difficult if you're unfamiliar with the map. I hope there will be enough landmarks so you can give people directions.

I support this idea, it's something new. They're doing something different, instead of copying other mmorpgs all the time.
I personally enjoy exploring the most, and getting rid of the map will make it feel more realistic since you'll have to remember the terrain more instead of watching at some map.

While the compass can be useful it pointing you in the right direction, I like having the mini map to see exactly where it is you need to be going, especially when you are having trouble finding something with just the compass. I guess as long as they dont take out the actual map out of the menu then it's not a big deal.

Mini-map was really helpful in navigation, but it's understandable that they are removing it. Of course, they want us t spend as much time as possible in this game so that they can get their subscription fees per month.

I don't think removing minimap in a multiplayer game is a good idea.

As initially everyone will be unfamiliar with the map it could become pretty tough to meet up with your friends and guild members and organize events.

I would have rather much preferred a toggle, or atleast some kind of level limit till you can use it or something.

Yeah, it's not going to do any favor, but like I stated earlier, they are doing it because they want us to putter around a bit more than we did in Skyrim. The more time we spend, the more they will get.

But making a MMO complex is one of the biggest mistakes a developer can do.

First impressions are very important in a MMO, and if a newbie doesn't understand what's going on or is overwhelmed or confused initially then that leaves a bad taste in his mouth and can push him away from the game.

I totally get why they are doing this, but I agree with LemonTea, it will make matters more difficult, especially when trying to meet up with others.

I like this idea. It'll make the world seem a bigger and more mysterious than in previous games. A sense of enormity is something that's been lacking in the series since Morrowind.

Having played the beta, I gotta say I would have appreciated a minimap. Having to load up the big map to see where I was, but not being able to really see how where I was related to where I wanted to go was difficult.

Removing the mini map is fine, since you're not using the map to help you build something like that of Minecraft. However, I hope they keep something that resembles Skyrim's compass interface. I like that it shows you N, S, W, E and also distant and near objects. The closer you are to those landmarks, the bigger the icon becomes. Same with quest objective locations. If you're meeting up with a friend, then their player icon on the compass bar will become larger the closer the get with you.

That did help, but there were times when it was impossible to go directly toward the object/location in question, and a minimap would have been useful for that, I think.

I think for a multiplayer game, mini maps would be the best option. Unless, for some reason, you're in a situation where you deliberately need to be lost. The horizontal compass is a good navigation tool though

The compass in ES was always a really good alternative to the mini maps found in most games. And ever since Oblivion, it's easy to get pretty thrown off without having the trusty compass that we're all used to.

Nope, that's stupid. It's just going to make multileveled areas a pain..
