Anybody preorder the new Oculus Rift? Everybody was really upset with the price but I don't think its bad for cutting edge technology. I'm waiting for more info on the Vive as well. I'm interested to see what Valve and HTC are doing with that. I got kind of upset when Facebook bought the Oculus. So far I'm more inclined to buy the Vive, the room sensor things are cool as hell.

Why are you upset that Facebook bought the Oculus? They have the financial potency and technology to propell it to the next level. I think 400 quid is definitely not too bad for virtual reality.

I think it's better that way, cutting edge technology shouldn't be too cheap for two reasons:
1.- You don't want to try something for the first time using a poorly constructed cheap piece of hardware
2.- Companies still need money for those proyects, since they're still under development and it can be really expensive to develop such technology
I think it's best that facebook owns it. Stability is very important to future investors

I'm looking forward to the Vive more than Rift, also. I'm big on PC gaming, so I'm especially looking forward to what Valve will do with their VR. I doubt that the Vive will be significantly cheaper, but I am a little bothered by the price tag on the Rift. I can understand that quality is important, but I'm not sure how open I am to spending more money on a headset than I would on an entire console.

Anyway it goes im either getting a rift or vive. Just imagine the next generation stuff coming out in a few years. Full immersive games with treadmills, gloves where you can see your hands in game, surgical training simulation, ducking in real life behind cover in game. The whole VR thing makes me excited :)

Meh, I'll wait until the technology evolves more. The cooler VR stuff could be decades away. The simple stuff is what they are trying to market right now.

I'm not that interested with VR but I am curious to try it. I just feel like I wouldn't want to move my head around that much if I just want to relax and play a game. I'd much rather just go zombie mode on the couch and just move my thumbs, but maybe I'll change my mind once I get to try it out, though I'm a little skeptical. Maybe if it evolves even further to the point where I don't have to move my head I'll be more receptive to the idea.

I have the rift on preorder and will be getting the vive as well. I plan on making back my money on them through gaming content, as there will be a huge gold rush involved in content development for the upcoming titles and a shortage of quality material outside of already-popular sources

That's a brilliant idea. VR Content development certainly is the future. There's just way more opportunity in that space than people imagine.

Heck yes! If you're interested in making your income online, this is probably the best time to start researching livestreaming, finding games that are going to be released and focusing on developing a fanbase. You can easily pull 5k in a month as a simple streamer without even all that many views, and most people will be too late to the party to develop a following after the first wave is settled.

I'm interested in both visors but I rather wait for a price drop or when there are actual games that I care about. :p

The thing is, the price of the price drop is not having it for that span of time. It's totally worth it to pay more in the beginning, because there -WILL- be games you like that support it right off the bat, and if you wait, you miss out on any opportunities to make money off of any games you're playing by building a small following. Early pioneers reap the rewards of the gold in the streams.

Hmm, no. I might try it out at some point, farther down the road, but I'm not going to buy one now. VR seems like something that would make me motion sick, haha.

I don't know if I will try it right now. I have watched a few videos of the Vive in use, seeing the person's motion in a green room as well as the game itself and while it looks cool, I definitely had some motion sickness triggering. I'm sure down the line, things will be better developed and I will experience a more smoother movement. So no, not for a while. They games exclusive for the VR's do look pretty sweet though.

It is still very new technology so I would wait a couple of months or up to a year for prices to come down a little bit. They will definitely drop if a same kind of device is released from a different manufacturer.
