Okami is one of those games that just let's you want to sit back and enjoy the scenery because it looks so damn good. It was released both for the PS2 and the Wii and both versions are incredible. It's a shame that few people got the game because it's one of the best games of all time! The scope of the game was massive. The story was very immersing and the combat was highly addicting. The puzzles and combat were very unique since the main protagonist - the Sun God Amaterasu had a very unique ability - to use the celestial brush. Try it out guys, it's one of the most beautiful games you'll ever play.
I know! This game was amazing! One of my tops. I beat it twice actually. One when I was little, and then I played it several years later when I had forgotten a lot of things (though much still came back to me!). There was just so much to explore, and the items you could find were fun to snoop out. The transitions to upgrades felt smooth and worthwhile. I like how there are hidden brushstrokes you could get! Very cool. I enjoyed making the towns pretty! I could probably play this game again and still find something to enjoy about it.
Don't think it's exactly a hidden gem or something. I always thought it was a pretty popular game, seems to show up in best games of all time lists quite a lot and from what I know was commercially successful as well. Wouldn't argue with it being a gem though. Great game and a freshly unique one at that. Loved playing it a lot.
This is an annoyingly hard game to get a hold of if you're in the UK. A friend had this imported from the US a couple of years ago for an extortionate price -though it really is worth it. I think it has more of a cult(ish) following than being super popular or anything.
Hmm... I was always under the impression that the game was quite popular. Most gamers do seem to know about it even if they haven't played it.
I have played Okami and I can say I had a lot of fun playing it I would love to see them make a sequel!
But they did make a sequel quite some time ago for the Nintendo DS. Okami-den. With Chibiterasu, Okami's son, as the main character. And to be honest, I always thought it was quite a popular game. I mean it is a great, unique, fun game; a definite gem. But I don't see it as a hidden gem either. Pretty much all the gamers I know have played it, or at least have heard of it and want to play it.
Okami seems to be pretty popular, though, not an unknown game. It is very damn good, though, I'll give you that. Now, Okami-den... has anyone played THAT one?
Nah, sales shows otherwise. Don't you know that Clover Studio, the developers of Okami which is under Capcom was shut down because their games weren't doing well in the market? It's a shame really. Gamers prefer to buy Call of Duty for the nth time rather than purchase a great and unique game like Okami.
Definitely one of the most unique and beautiful games I had ever played. I wish I had spent more time with it. If only I have a Playstation console to play it still. ^_^
Perhaps, but maybe that was just Capcom being dumb. Clover became Platinum Games and they have been doing great so far, really. But it's true that the majority seem to prefer the yearly Call of Duty over other (better) games.
The name sounds vaguely familiar but I had never checked the game out at all. I do happen to own a Wii system and will have to keep my eye out for a used copy. Those are definitely some impressive graphics. Provided the storyline is decent, it should be a rather interesting game. Thanks for the suggestion.
Most folks I know who are actually into games love Okami. I've never played it myself, but it's on my to-play list for sure. I just have to play about 1000000 games first.
i do not know why i never played it, must have beeen the fact that twilight princess was the shit then!
BTW, since it hasn't been mentioned in the thread: there is an HD version out on PS3 for those that have a PS3 but no PS2/Wii. Also, the Wii version is inferior to the PS2 one due to some issues (I've heard of crashing, but the controls are annoying too)... but it's better than nothing!
