Would you prefer Metro: Last Light to be an open-world game, or have a linear story?

A mix of the two would be the best balance imo. Metro should stay story driven, but expand on options and choices. Alternate paths and ways to handle any given situation need to be enhanced.

I think it should be inFamous styled, same as Cheaptrix said, it's a balance. YOu can go along the storyline, but still go around and destroy stuff, or kill enemies.

İ agreed and i hope they DO NOT open world. Because this is not STALKER this is METRO !

And remember Metro 2033 Chapter 4, if you want to fight then you fight but you can also cross stealthly. Nevertheless they should add some more of that style.

Linear, but maybe a little more open in the stations, esp big ones like Polis.

Agree with Von Streff in having it linear but with the ability to explore stations more. At first I thought open world would be great then thought sticking with linear is perhaps best and more true to Metro.

I liked the way it was in Metro 2033 : linear while being non-linear maybe allow stations to explored more in the next one?

I hope it is not going to be like mass effect 2,i did not played after ending mass effect 2 so metro last light should not explore all places with the missions

I meant not as open as mass effect, fallout, ect but a bit more freedom to satisfy our sociopathic, horror-survivalist, apocalypse, fulled imagination.

I agree with this statement. However, I think it's best that Metro leans more towards the "one main road with shorter, optional paths stemming off" exploration-wise but gives us more choice in how we handle situations, add in some role-playing elements here and there. Maybe even break Artyom's Gordon Freeman syndrome and let us converse with people. Anyway, it's best if it stays as non-linear as possible without becoming open world. That style of gameplay just seems to suit Metro and its atmosphere best... besides, we already have three S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games and a fourth one on the way! :p

I want Metro: Last Light like the book. It would be longer and more enjoyable.. even when there's alot of parts when they talk too much and you don't shoot a one bullet for a hour but ftw.

Lol, what about a Metro: Last Light mmo? lol, bleh

The idea of an MMO set in the universe of the Metro books & games would be awesome but ultimately, it would fail. Wandering a huge world built up off carefully designed, long tunnels with some occasional wandering around on the more open, frozen wastes of the surface would be very nice. Levelling up, gaining experience, better equipment & weaponry as well as more ammunition would also be an entertaining aspect of the experience.

To make it even better, each server could be limited to only 50 or 100 people online in the same zone at one time. This would be great to create that feeling of loneliness and sorrow, as you would cherish every moment you spent with any fellow metro dwellers you so rarely encountered. Or you could shoot them from afar to take their ammo and their maps. On the other hand, if you were lucky and encountered more than one on your travels, you could form a group of travellers and set up a meeting point at which each member could choose to spawn at when logging back in.

However, this whole experience would lack atmosphere. MMOs are the most atmospheric when you play alone and take in the landscapes, music and visuals. Still, they aren't very immersive in comparison to singleplayer games because they have a very gamey feel and you can always see players names and merchants names. Besides, there are always annoying players. I guess the developers could make a lot of changes, until eventually they would get it right. But then it wouldn't be a Massively-Multiplayer Online game anymore, but a whole new genre.

I have been thinking the exact same thing. Would be awesome to actually let Artyom speak a little and don't be all like Gordon Freeman.
About the main subject aswell: I'd like to have it quite linear, but choose what to do or maybe even what to say in different situations, and do more different choices than to just take and give ammo..

Linear, but slightly open at the stations. But keep it very story driven, for sure!

They should keep it linear. Like Metro 2033 is. But, I would actually like to see just a tad bigger areas. With just a tad more places to explore that isn't on the main path. Maybe even some side quests as well to help your fellow dwellers.

I don't know if traveling back and forth between previous visited stations would fit in, but you could always find people who wanted something transported, something found and delivered in the next station, a message as well or maybe something entirely different?
