I'm curious...who here plays as the opposite gender? I've played fairly consistently with a male character. No real reason, it's just my preference. People usually mistake me for being a male player, though, and usually I've found that it works in my favor.

What about you guys? What's your preference?

I always play as a female may it be RPGs or games in general. Don't get me wrong, I'm not in it for the free loot, but female are a lot more appealing to look at compared to the always buff and macho male ones.

It depends. When I was playing Neverwinter nights as a human or elf, I usually pick a female (I am a guy). When I pick a dwarf, I had to go with a male because the female dwarves don't look so great in that game.

When I was playing Lineage 2 (it has really pretty character designs), I picked female again for my elf, human, dark elf. Only my orc was male because the female ones looked...just weird.

I believe majority of the players actually pick the same gender as themselves in the video games...at least that's what I have seen. We had teamspeaker and vent for Lineage 2, so I could confirm their genders.

There are always some players in every game will always pick the opposite gender. In lineage 2 for example, one male elf player who was well known enough (as a clan leader) turned out to be a girl months after we got to know each other's characters in the game. She said "I just don't want to look at the behind of a girl all day". So go figure lol... I guess it's the same with most guy players.

It depends upon the game and if it is a male dominated one then my avatar will be a male. There are some games where I feel it better to assume the persona of a female - but that's just me. I know a lot of people who play only with male avatars.

I forgot to mention that there are always more guy players than girl players in almost every MMORPG games. The ratio is more like 10 to 1 or even greater. However, we often see almost equal amount of gender in characters in these worlds.
It means there are always a lot of men playing girl characters in MMORPGs.

I also remember there was a funny saying...
Someone called MMORPG as the short for Many Men Online Role Play Girls. :D

Makes sense. I tend to get irritated with most female character models. The useless, nonsensical armor is so much worse with female characters.

I wonder what the representation would be if someone conducted a study. Most of my guild is male. Only a few of them have female characters, though. It's kind of an interesting thing to think about.

I always play as a male. I don't see why I should pick up my opposite gender, it's not meant to be that way...

If all MMORPG players think the same way as you, then female characters will become a rare species in all MMORPG. Like I have mentioned in my earlier posts, majority of the MMORPG players are male in the real world. If all guys play guys, then we'll see pretty much all guys in the game lol. It would be quite boring since half of the character designs are missing from the "world".

    It's an RPG. Roleplaying Game.

I'm already Roleplaying as a warrior of Divine Power, why would I not also roleplay as a guy?

Are you a guy or girl?
If you are a guy, the reason must be you are already role playing a guy in the real world? :p

If you are a girl, then the reason must be you are bored of being a girl, and would love to take a chance to role play something else? LOL

Well I pick one how I feel, but I mostly play a girl when it comes to games and i mean come on girls just have more stuff haha. My hubby thinks that the girls look better when it comes to looks and things like that. I mean you can play the role you want in my opinion. I always choose a girl, but in time I may play a guy haha.

I'm a guy and I never pick a female character in games unless there's no choice like Tomb Raider and Final Fantasy XIII. I'm not a sexist or anything, I just don't like playing a female in games.

I'm a girl, but reverse the roles and the point still applies if you get me?

I don't mind playing with male or female. It depends on the game and the character

If I play as a healer, it just feels right for me to play as a female character, I don't know why. You do have the added benefit of nerds fighting for your attention and giving you free stuff.

My main set of characters are normally male characters. However, when I finally want to attach a story to them, I may choose to play a female character. For example, in WoW, I have a male Tauren Hunter, a male Tauren Shaman and a female Tauren Warrior. In my story, they're all related. The Warrior started out as "the mom", but later on, I changed her into the "little sister".

In Fallout 3, I made a female character. In my personal story, she is the great great great grand daughter of me and Fallout 3 was her journey in the post apocalyptic world.

Basically, I don't like creating female characters just because they have boobies. I make them because they are a part of a story I concocted in my head.

I've played both, not for any reason either, sometimes the opposite gender just looks better in appearance to me and that's my reasoning for playing them.

I usually always play female, but a looooong time ago, male was pretty much the only choice. When I play a game that forces me to be guild or alliance active, I usually go with a non-gender specific nick because I can't stand seeing femininity used to get goods and services out of other players. It doesn't seem right.

I'm a male and I almost always play as a male character in the MMOs I play. Sometimes I like the female characters more appealing as the male ones and therefore I choose the female avatar. When I can't decide between male and female avatars, I sometimes go with the female avatar, because I get through the leveling easier (getting more attention from other players etc.).
